It was disappointing that Splinter Cell Conviction, until you saw what Conviction actually was, Splinter Cell Conviction removed the stealth that the series is well known for and piratically destroyed the series's original fanbase. Anyway, enough with rants on Splinter Cell Conviction onto reviewing Splinter Cell Trilogy. The stories a well written and basically revolve around World War III scenerio's, I will leave it at that in risk of spoilers. For anyone unfamiliar with the Splinter Cell series, they star Sam Fisher, a secret undercover worker for the government, Sam is know as a 'Splinter Cell', he is a stealth agent who must remain unseen at all times.
The stealth gameplay in the true Splinter Cell games is done flawlessly, Sam will encounter what seems like impossible barriers, but there is always one more trick up his sleeve, the game gives you access to a wide variety of gadgets including lock picks, gas bombs and night vision goggles. For most missions it is possible to play Splinter Cell like a third person shooter, but ammo is scarce and if you do play it this way you will be missing the point of the games, infact, in some missions killing is not allowed, which leads to a lot more stealth. The A.I. is Splinter Cell is top notch and it has to be for this kind of game, the level design is also excellent, it's mainly linear in the original game and Pandora Tomorrow, but more open ended in Chaos Theory. While the stories are well written, the games are also easily accessible and can be played without worrying about the plot and still have a good time. As you have probably noticed by mixed critic reviews, multiplayer has been removed, but it can't be taken as a negative as it can't be expected of Ubisoft to put up servers for six year old games.
Unfortunately, the visuals in the original game and Pandora Tomorrow have not aged well, but let is be said that great visuals don't make a great game,, Chaos Theory on the other hand, still looks good.
Voice Acting is top notch and makes the characters believable and the stories engaging.
Overall, if you are craving some strategic stealth gameplay, and your not a graphics whore on Call of Duty fan craving multiplayer, you won't be disappointed with this trilogy. Sure the visuals are dated, but any true gamer does not play games to look at. This more than makes up for the disastrous abomination know as Splinter Cell Conviction not being on PS3. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell HD Trilogy gets an almost perfect 9.5/10.
