Alright. I was waiting and waiting and waiting for this game to finally come out, and it finally did. my score pretty much says it. Gameplay deserves a good 10 thanks to the amazing multi-player which I will get into soon. It's like the first one, but that factor shouldn't lower the score in any way seeing as how the first game was amazing. A few new moves and animations have been added which are pretty cool to look at. (specifically speaking about shooting up-side-down while hanging from your legs off of a horizontal beam of some sort...really cool...love doing it). The first mission is probably the worst gameplay wise...only because you start right in it and they use it as a tutorial type mission with all of the controls and stuff in messages at the bottom...so it's not that exciting for a SC veteran of the first game. The missions are very long...very long...around 30 to 45 minutes each...with the exception a short train mission lasting around 13 minutes if you really rush throught it. Although you shouldn't since being on a train in this game is just cool to see. Like i said...10...great stuff. But if you're new to the splinter cell games...start with the first one...because this one requires some experience in knowing what to look for in order to get out of certain places, how to get around guards...and just gameplay in general...especially since this game is much more difficult than it's predecessor. Learning curve for a SC veteran would be maybe 15 minutes. Learning curve for a SC newcomer would be maybe 45 minutes to an hour just because of having to know what I mentioned before. Graphics...8...it has wonderful graphics still...but it just seems like they have been toned down just a little bit. Although when you're moving around in the water in some missions...the ripple marks look wonderful. The multi-player graphics are also about the same...with the exception that the spies look a lot more mechanical than sam fisher does in single player...but that can be over-looked. In fact, it works to your advantage in multi-player, seeing as how if you were running from a merc and you were trying to pull youself up and the spy pulled up as if he were Sam Fisher, that would prove to be a problem because Sam Fisher takes 50 years to pull up to a ledge. Therefore the mercs are running at you, guns blazing, you'd be dead before you even got up to the ledge you were going for. So the fast mechanical feel is good for multi-player. Sound...7...the weapons still sound the same...pretty good...and the music is once again amazing for this game...although sometimes very abrupt...it still adds to the mood of the game well enough. The thing that brought down the score a little...and is something gamespot mentions themselves...is that the voice acting...besides sam fisher, lambert, and their 2 other partners...sucks. all of the voice acting is very poorly done...no matter where you are in the world...every single person speaks in completely un-accented english...it does kind of ruin the mood when you're in Israel and the roaming police officers speak like transfered americans. Value...even though this game has 8 missions...each mission is extremely long which will provide in a whole lot of game time...along with the new multi-player mode which I will now explain for anyone who has or is planning on getting an online adaptor, will keep you occupied for a very long time. The multi-player in this game, is absolutely amazing. Once I got the adaptor, I sat on the game non-stop just about 24/7 because of how addictive it is. You can choose to play as either a mercenary and kill any and all intruders (a.k.a. spies) that try to neutralize the ND133 viral containers, or as a spy who must neutralize the ND133 by standing infront of it and hacking it for a certain time limit, risking his health and possibly life to any mercanery who comes in and kills you in the process. The other game modes consist of extraction, where the spies must grab the tubes, run to there insertion point and extract the tubes, or sabotage, where you have modems that are to be placed within a certain vacinity of the ND133 to hack them from a distance. This is beneficial to the spies in the sense that they're not sitting ducks as they neutralize an ND. In each case, the mercenary team must stop the spies by either killing them as many times as the lives are set to, or by stopping them from completing there objective within the time limit. Multi-player online will compensate for many, many hours of fun and entertainment that the single player mode can not make up for. This will keep you occupied for a very long time or at least have you extremely intrigued by it's new style gameplay and all the different ways to get things accomplished. and as for the reviewer's tilt...i just wanted to give the score an extra little umph to the 9
