Realistic and impressive!

User Rating: 8 | Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell PC
Splinter Cell is like Hitman in Solid Snake's suit, except that it's less flamboyant than Hitman and less combative than Metal Gear Solid. For action game lovers, this is a different kind of challenge, and not for everyone too. Splinter Cell is uniformly realistic throughout, having the need to be constantly in the dark and unseen, taking care to avoid patrols and dutifully pace yourself to stay in the pattern even when completing the main objectives and going for extraction.

Of course, you can go around like Serious Sam, but the game is smart to keep your ammo low and effectively preventing you from putting the intended fun out of the game. Splinter Cell features really good stealth systems that are engaging and test your reflexes in a unique manner. Other than a light/shadow indicator and good AI, the PC version has a cool wheel-mouse control function that tweaks walking and running so smoothly that it deserves an award for Best Controls. And, lucky for PC users, saving at any point of time also helps reduce the frustrations.

Most of the satisfactions that you garnered in the missions come from successfully navigating through the area without triggering any alarms or performing that cool drop-down move that takes a difficult patrol guy out without killing him. Also, having an interactive soundtrack is super cool, which brings the drama out as well as being a source of enemy indicator.

The interval cinematics in the form of TV news are a little cheesy at times but it's a great effort the developers made to reward you from completing the long missions. To conclude, though trigger-happy fans may not fancy it that much, Splinter Cell is a masterpiece in the stealth action genre.
