The genesis of the SC series had me hooked in the first five minutes.

I have been a fan of the Splinter Cell series since this game first hit the shelves. Never before had I played a game that focused so much on stealth. I had become so accustomed to FPS's and RPG's that I had never taken the time to actually play a stealth game, not that there were many before this other than MGS. Anyway, Ubisoft's novel use of the shadow system really intrigued me; I never thought skulking around in the shadows secretly following your enemy's every move could be so much fun. One can actually complete entire levels without ever coming into direct contact with any of the villains. There were certain instances where the use of force was necessary and Fisher had been given all the tools he needed to get the job done. He had the ability to interrogate, knock out and kill his enemies if need be. And speaking of Fisher, the guys at Ubisoft came up with an excellent, well thought out character when they created Sam Fisher. For some reason it just seems more fun to play with a retired, sometimes jaded, spy. The develpers could have given us a young, Vin Diesel looking guy who would have just gone around killing people like the bad ass that he is but instead they gave us Fisher: a resourceful, intelligent, experienced and slightly over the hill spy. For those who haven't had a chance to play the Splinter Cell games this is a must play. The missions are challenging, intense and suspenseful all at the same time. It's just a different type of game than most and accordingly is a nice breather from the market saturator FPS's and RPG's. If you haven't played it, go find it for ten bucks at Target, bring it home, and play it for a couple of hours. You'll be hooked...I guarantee it.
