Tomb Raider Anniversary is the best remake of a classic game, and in this case: the best Tomb Raider game ever.

User Rating: 8.2 | Tomb Raider: Anniversary (Platinum) PS2
Tomb Raider on the PSone was such a classic that won the hearts of gamers around the world, and seeing how technology developed over the years it was really a reasonable request to ask for a remake, and now this dream became a reality: Tomb Raider Anniversary is everything that a remake should be: an exciting adventure with next generation graphics, music, game play elements, and a deeper storyline with cool cut scenes, making sure to capture every classic moment of the original Tomb Raider on the PSone.
The graphics are really what our beloved Lara deserves, she even looks a bit better than she did in Tomb Raider: Legend. And the backgrounds are more clear and some light effects are nice( although some shadow issues can be noticed), but all in all it is nice to see what developers can accomplish with the PS2 technology.
The music in TR:Anniversary is taken from the original Tomb Raider, although some pieces were added to make the games less "quiet", and the effects are fine and appropriate.
Game play wise, the developers dropped the whole team Lara idea seen in TR:Legend, so no more chatting through the earpiece and microphone while exploring ancient tombs, the idea behind that was to give the gamer a sense of :"wow if I fall off this height no one will ever find me and I'll disappear for ever, oh the horror". Lara has her nice set of moves all seen in TR: Legend, but new "jump on the pole and balance your self on it" and " swing on the rope while running on the wall"(just like Prince Of Persia) are added to the mix. And as for the levels they've been redrawn and redesigned but as a whole they are the same as the ones in the original game but some parts have been tweaked and others added. The only problem is some glitches and errors that can be noticed particularly in the Egypt levels.
As for the life span of this game, the extras are the usual ones that you all saw in TR: Legend, cheats, weapon upgrades and outfits for Lara( although not as much as in TR: Legend), and the time trial mode ( which is more difficult in this game), in addition to some art work and comments, but that's it.
All in all Tomb Raider: Anniversary is a really enjoyable game that honors the gaming icon that is Lara Croft, after all these years it is nice to remember how it all started. Crystal Dynamics, you took every thing good in TR: Legend and in the original TR and made the perfect Tomb Raider game, good work guys.
