Lara Croft still has what it takes to bring a great game to your door step...or pocket for that matter.
I will admit that it's a bit odd at first to go from playing with (I play with Logitech gamepad on my PC) two analog sticks to just one. And for me...using that little nub is a bit of a pain. It hurts my hand after long hours of playtime. But that's why I just pick up and play my PSP games every so often. It's a portable after all ;)
The graphics on the PSP version are surprisingly pretty good. Outside of having a higher resolution availability on the PC, and some more atmospheric touches that are not included, it still looks beautiful. I've not had any kind of frame rate stutter at all since I've played it. There was one tine during an FMV that the UMD kind of stuttered a bit...but it hasn't happened since. It may have just been one of those little flukes.
Most of what I'm impressed with is the amount of love that went into this game in general. If I had a Wii, I would consider getting it on that console as well. I don't buy all of these Tomb Raider games just because I want build a collection of Lara in my life. I really enjoy these games. True, some are better than others. But that's always the case with any series. It comes down to personal taste if you ask me.
Lara has always delivered a wonderful game experience. This one is the best to date so far in my mind. I loved Legend...but this one brought back the great excitement that the memory of the original created so many years ago.
The only complaint I would have about this experience isn't really that of the game's fault. My PSP's square button gets stuck every so often. It's actually kind of annoying. And since that's the button that's used to fire...sometimes it gets stuck and I'm left with Lara potentially being in a state of DEATH if I don't recover quickly enough or get that button to pop back up. I may see about getting that button replaced or something. I know that it was one of those little flukes with the PSPs. I don't know if they've solved that problem or not with the newer model coming out this fall. Oh well...other than that...it's a good solid game for the PSP.
If you have a choice in what console to get this game at...I would say get it on the PC or PS2 due to the full playing experience of having it on either a nice PC set up or larger television and surround sound set up. (having it on a 5.1 system is fantastic by the way!)
But if you'd rather take Lara around the town and have her anywhere you may be at (not to be taken crudely) then the PSP version does indeed stand up to it's larger console counterparts. Either way, Tomb Raider Anniversary is a great game for any TR fan or action/adventure fan. Check it out!
