Lara has returned!

User Rating: 8.4 | Tomb Raider: Legend PS2
The Good: The Tomb Raider series started off as one of the best games in video game history but due to some bad decisions and poor game designs Lara eventually went through a downward spiral. Now thanks to a new developer Lara has returned to her rightful place: The Tombs! Yes, the tombs are back and they look absolutely beautiful. The enviroments in TRL are breathtaking, with there lavishly developed waterfalls, realistic plant life, brilliantly detailed statues and relics. I felt I was standing right next to Lara as the sun rays peeped through the broken ceilings. Her character model is detailed, displaying every item an weapon you can find in your inventory. Lara looks perfect, keeping her classic look yet with a spark of new qualities that show her previous actions (she gets dirty when rolling on the ground and wet when in water). The voice acting, ambient to in your face enviroment sounds are great, along with music perfect for every situation. The puzzles are very clever and the story keeps things going. This is an great new start for this franchise!

The Bad: Although the graphics look great, I do have a few quams. The framerate can drop occasionally and the camera, which is good but can be a little wonky at times. Even though Lara has some really cool moves during gunplay it still needs some work. The targeting can be a bit unbalanced and enemies take way to long to drop (they aren't too bright either). The puzzles are fun but are way to easy, I've been passing them with little thought and I've got the feeling I'm going to finish the game way to soon. Lastly the checkpoint system works well but why doesn't it autosave?

The Ugly: The bike scenes leave much to be desired (in other words they suck!).

Final: This is Lara's best outing since TR2 and I hope that now the path has been set, improvements will follow. TR on PS3 anyone!
