More or less what I expected...

Back in 1996, I played my first Tomb Raider. THE first Tomb Raider. Lara Croft was quite the badass equivalent of Duke Nukem and it was the most fun I had in a game by then.
This reboot of the series tells the tale of how Lara Croft became the badass action icon she is today.

Story: 9.0
--------------
I really loved that the creators of Tomb Raider decided to go all the way back and show Lara when she was basically still an innocent girl. Stranded on a strange island, she ends up having to rescue her friends and brave the dangers of the island on the way. Earlier on, killing people makes you feel bad, but eventually just like Lara you get used to it. And that's one of the bad points: after her first kill, Lara shows no remorse over killing people from that point on. It's your choice whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Combat: 7.0
--------------
While it's fun at first, murdering dozens of bad guys gets quite tiring later on. And the unfortunate thing is that about halfway through the game, the bad guys start throwing fire arrows and dynamite at you. And which ever it is, THEY ALWAYS HITS YOU. To test out that theory, I hid behind a large building about 200 in-game meters away from a guy who threw dynamite. And somehow he threw it right over the 10 story building 200 meters away sow it landed right next to Lara's foot. It's annoying. On the other hand, unlocking weapons and murdering with them is great fun. A bow & arrow, a rifle, a pistol, a pickaxe and a shotgun are some permanent weapons you can acquire. And all are upgradeable. There's also this type of enemy who wears full body armor. I shot him seven times in the face with my pistol and he didn't die. Then I literally stepped out of cover for one second and died instantly. It's things like this that degrade the experience.

Sound effects/soundtrack: 9.0
--------------
The soundtrack of this game is great. It's dramatic at all the right moments and just works well with the game. The way it gets fast and loud when you are caught by surprise or in an action sequence just fits in great. The sound effects throughout the game work well too, it's just that each time Lara gets hurt be it by falling or hit by some debris or an arrow, it sounds like she's in the midst of having sex with the Hulk. It gets uncomfortable after a while, but I guess it's to be expected from the innocent small Lara of this game.

Graphics: 8.0

This subject depends on what you're talking about. The environments, the character models, the weapons, etc...but it's all quite good. The weapons are highly detailed and start to look cool when you upgrade them and add on parts. The environments are absolutely stunning at most parts of the game. Be it at the top of a mountain or being throwing down a powerful stream, you can tell much work was put into this game. Particular parts I liked were the shantytowns, the forests and the sky. Rain or sunset it looked beautiful. Then there's the character models. Some may look slightly dated and the strange thing is that there is a huge difference between Cinematic Opening Lara and Gameplay Lara. In the opening of the game her face looks very different from in-game and it's kind of weird. Plus outside of cutscenes when Lara talks there is absolutely no lip-syncing.

Overall: 8.25

The game overall is quite good. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a good adventure game with interesting characters, cool weapons, standard combat, and a game that rarely glitches. Not game of the year, but certainly one of the really good ones.
