Tomena Sanner should be a free game played on web browsers. Not at all worth the $5.
Tomena Sanner's gameplay is quite simple. You start off with a timer that counts down to zero. You need to be done with the level before time runs out or it's game over. To interact with objects, you press A. This is the only control in the game. Pressing A at the perfect time gets you a "Great" action, which keeps your speed up and gives you bonus time. Otherwise, you either get a "Good," where no bonus time is awarded, or a "Miss" which leaves you staggering around losing lots of time. You can also press A to jump when there's no item to interact with. Jumping into coins or power-ups can earn you points. At the end of each level, based on your time and what you collected, you're awarded a score that can be uploaded to a leader board.
That's all there is to Tomena Sanner. There are 9 levels (each taking about 2 minutes each), and a mode that keeps going until you die, but there's nothing else to it. You can unlock a harder difficulty setting or try to beat a high score, but that's all there is to Tomena Sanner. It's a one-button game that could easily be done on Macromedia Flash.
The gameplay, however, is not perfect. Interacting with objects cannot be done midair. So if you land on a fire hydrant, let's say, you're screwed. There was no way to counter. This is particularly annoying if one of the "Great" actions is what sent you flying. This is just poor level design. It would have been better to aim for "Good" than to gain 2 "Great" seconds and then lose 5 from the "Miss" with the fire hydrant. This is extremely annoying and happens far too often in Tomena Sanner.
There really is very little to justify charging $5 for this game. Even at its low price tag, there's such little to do. It also looks like a Flash game. Yes, it's charming with its idiosyncrasies and randomness, but it's really low-tech. I honestly believe it was a Flash game that was ported to WiiWare. The audio is also unremarkable. The sound effects are cutesy Japanese sounds and the music is run-of-the-mill super-Japanese zany music that does its job barely. Presentation is not this game's strong suit.
Let me acknowledge that this is a fun, simple game. It's easy to pick up play and sports some multiplayer options, but that's about it. I just can't get over the fact that at its low price it still feels like a rip-off.
