One of the greatest games of it's time. With groundbreaking graphics and innovative gameplay, this was the awesomest.
This game has brought competition and awesome moves and addicting gameplay to a new level. So much things to be brought to mind. The customization, the gameplay, everything.
First to be brought to mind is gameplay. This is as high as competition could get. This game lets new players get into the very simple controls and easy gameplay mechanics. Career is plainly fun, hitting those pretty easy to pretty hard challenges make the career part fun. The levels are fun to explore, highly interactive with some creative little gags. Competitions are the most challenging parts in the game. The judges are very strict and the characters scores can be very hard to beat, and one bail can possibly screw you. Create-a-Player does have a little bit of detail put into it, no serious stuff like the stuff in Oblivion, but it is still very fun to customize you own characters to trick out the characters the way you like them. Some details are ignored but it's like making you, as a skater. Cool looking tricks and long combos also add to your score. The higher the scores are, the more challenges you beat. Oh, yes, the challenges. The challenges put into every level make this game worth your while. Most of these require your to do certain tricks in certain locations on the level. Like in the Canada level, the Challenge:"Get Chuck Unstuck", where this unknown kid(possibly named Chuck, they never tell you) has his tongue stuck on a pole. All you have to do is run through him to get him unstuck. There are also other, harder challenges that are usually similar to "Impress the 5 skaters", by doing awesome tricks next to other skaters, or "Find the secret tape", which is included in every level, is a challenge where you have to find a VHS tape that isn't that hard to find, but is very hard to get to. And the other challenges which are in every level are the "High","Pro", and "Sick" Scores, which add a lot of challenge to the game. "High" is usually easy to get as it is only a very low high score you need to reach, but the "Sick" Scores are VERY HARD to reach, as high as 600,000 on the easiest level! All the other challenges are pretty much interacting with the level enviroment to make certain things happen. Other than that, the single player career mode is very, very fun and addicting.
As for the multiplayer, it can get very competitive. There are 6 game modes, Graffiti, where you tag the stuff in a level. The more you tag, the more points you get, and of course, The person with the most points wins. Then, there's trick attack, a free-for-all competition where the person with the biggest points in the given time limit wins. HORSE, is of course, your standard HORSE game. Someone tries to nail a trick, you try to beat it. If you fail, you get a letter, if you succeed, someone will have to beat it. It goes on and on until someone fails and accumulates enough letters to be a HORSE. You can change the word if you want to. Something more fitting for your competition. There is also slap!. That's right. You have to slap! your competition by running into them. Of course, the faster person actually gets the slap. This game pretty much ends after you spent a lot of time slapping your friends. King of the hill is also pretty self explanatory. You find the crown in the middle of somewhere, you take it and skate around with it. Of course, you skate slower with the crown. If you have the crown for a certain amount of time, you win. And free skate, is pretty much free skate. Skate around a map, and do whatever you want. Try to nail some awesome moves and that kind of stuff. You'll be spending a lot of time with it too. There is also a Create-A-Park addition to the game where you can create you own skate park so your friends can mess around in it. Easy 10/10.
And now, for the presentation, graphics. While not thought of as groundbreaking in our current standards, this was an awesome looking game back then. There are never any frame rate hiccups of any sort, and the detail on most of the stuff in the game is(was) phenomenal. Even the little stuff like lights, people's faces(kinda complete), and even the wheels on your board are all included with out any loading screens while moving through levels. The levels in this game are very creatively made and add a lot more to the gameplay. The very simple, but detailed animations of everybody inside the game is great. Everyone moves around like regular people, and interactions with other people are very nicely done. Environment and object interactions are good. The only real physics are in midair tricks, and that's pretty much it. Very hard to say these very awesome graphics since this came out about 6 years ago, but they were great at the time. I mean think about it, look at the graphics and just imagine those graphics being in a game that came out 6 years ago. 10/10
Pulling away from the graphics is the great sound and the awesome soundtrack. For the soundtrack, the music included keeps the feel of playing the game going, with some catchy tunes like "I'm Destroying The World", "Blitzkrieg Bop", and "Ace of Spades" all keep this game fun and exciting. The sound effects for lots of the tricks and environmental interactions, like grinds on rails, or grinds on sidewalks all sound different and realistic, going up ramps on different types of terrain all sounds unique. It adds a lot of realism to the game. 10/10
This game can make you spend A LOT of time with it. It is a definitive buy for all the stuff you get inside of it. Even if your not a fan of skating games, you have to try this game. It's one of the greatest games you might ever play. Definitely worth buying especially now that it's almost a $5 game. It's the best get you can ever have. 10/10
