Worthy of living up there with THPS3 hi-res update. This game offers what the PS1 version did, plus more!
You have most of the levels from the PS1 edition except for the Sewers and PS1 bonus stage Little World, but bonus stages are usually different for each console anyway. Career Mode is a lot like THUG as you can do Free Roam and talk to Pros for the goals where as in the PS1 version there were just coloured emblems (the lighter the colour, the harder the challenge). Unlockable characters in this version include a Star Wars Ep.1 character. The unlockables are obtainable through purchasing in a special Secrets Shop. Two bonus levels can be bought, one of which is taken from Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2. Cheats can also be bought but there are a lot of them and will consume a lot of your cash. Cash Icons float around just like in THPS2. You gain cash from completing goals (again, just like THPS2) and occasionally unlock the odd Stat Point and Special Slot.
As I said, there are many things that make THPS4 Hi-Res similar to THUG. You can do a few missions which aren't related to Skating (an aspect which is more like THUG2 than THUG1, if I'm honest). These missions help you gain even more cash. The secret is to repeat them until you have won all the cash from these mini activities. Such include playing Tennis with a French guy (not the same french guy from THAW, sadly), playing Softball with a ghost player at the Bat and Collecting Cash in the air while transferring between moving Garbage Trucks on the road.
A great game, if still the hardest of the Pro Skater series. You will enjoy this for it's creativity and if you are a fan of the THUG and THAW games, then this will introduce you to the Underground style of the Tony Hawk gaming franchise.
