The world's best skateboarding game reinvents itself to give you the real life experiences of a hardened amateur skater

User Rating: 9.4 | Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 PS2
You don't have to be a gaming freak to know that the Tony Hawk series has rocked the gaming world, with each game better than the previous. Tony Hawk's pro skater 4 (TH4 for short) has raised the bar yet again. I guarentee you'll love this game, even if you don't love skating.

The graphics in TH4 are much sharper and more realistic than its siblings. Making the gameplay smoother and easier to master than before. With in a few hours you'll be pulling of some major stunts to impress the judges.

The game has the same objectives as the ones before it. But unlike 1,2 and 3, when you get stat points (points that make you a better skater, eg: the more points for ollying you get, the higher you can jump) all the other skaters do to. So you don't have to finnish the game with just 1 player, if you don't want to. Instead of veiwing the objectives you have to do on an annoying clip board, you talk to people who explain what to do in much better detail. The objectives themselves are much better too. They have some old one's like collecting the SKATE letters and busting high scores. But they have some excelent new one's, like collecting COMBO letters in one combo, freeing elephants from traps, dunking tourists in water, doing tricks as people call them out, and doing rollercoasters of certain tricks on certain objects. Everytime you complete an objective, you get money that you can spend on levels, cheats, clothes, secret gear, skaters and videos. And I can assure you, nomatter what you pick, you will be satisfied. My personal favourite is a Kenny the Koala head in the secret gear section. And one of the main reasons why this is the best Tony Hawk game, is that you can skitch cars and go for a ride. And take my word for it, it certainly is fun.
The gameplay is very brilliant and easy to get the hang of. It certainly feels like you really are a pro skater, doing tricks on a half pipe sometimes. Other things you can do when your not in carreer mode are creating skaters, practicing, building your own park, spending cash, customising your board and watching videos that tell you about your favourite skaters.
The graphics of the skaters are rather average and much to their releif look a lot better than they do in real life. But the surrounding are excelent, Sanfransisco, Alcatraz, Chicago and London look amazingly just like they do in real life. And the tricks look precisley like they should.
The sound in TH4 is very good. You hear many things, from a range of skaters, calling to you, to get you to do their objectives and sometimes yelling abuse at you if you pass them by, all the animals in the zoo make life like noises as you ride up to them, and the sounds you make when you revert and grind are extreamly realistic. And Activision 02 were very careful not to but any swear words in when your skater stacks it and yells out in pain.
