People complain about how redundant the Tony Hawk series is. People think that just because it doesn't add enough new, it should be labeled a failure and "ruining the series". I don't personally agree with that. I am a hardcore Tony Hawk fan and if nothing else about a new game in the series, I like the fact that it's more. I have more levels, multiplayer modes and more story to play. The gameplay is better. I can have a fresh game to play every year. I don't care if it's the same as the last one, as long as it has new create-a-park and new modes, levels and another story to beat. Enough about that. It feels better than all the other games in the series. I don't know how, but somehow Neversoft has perfected the controls just to make it better. I have no idea how, because they didn't change the controls, but maybe it's just the level design. The story mode is better in that it provides more of an open feel even than the last ones by having the goals just freely playable, like the classic games, but without a level-roaming time-limit just like Pro Skater 4 and Underground. One would think that that would make it far too easy, but Neversoft did that right too, so it's easy to complete the bare minimum of goals but completing them all can be a huge challenge. Classic mode is a nice touch for those who long for the classic THPS1-3. It seems to be missing something that they had in THPS3 but it's still almost as fun as the old games. Coupled with the already-great-on-their-own Story Mode and 2-Player mode, you've got a brilliant game right up there. The skateboarding sounds are just as good as ever, and the sound track is brilliant, perfect-for-skating licensed music as always. The graphics, which is typical for a Tony Hawk game, leave something to be desired (except for the pro skaters, crazy characters and create-a-skater, which is as fun as ever) but I won't judge by that. In closing, this is my favourite Tony Hawk game so far, even surpassing THPS3. If you have never tried a Tony Hawk game, buy it and if you have, buy it. This has renewed my dying faith in the series (THPS4 and THUG could have been better) and I am back to buying every game in the series.
