Think desperado and the matrix rolled into one cheesy game.
play as Ramiro Cruz, a REALLY problematic DEA agent that is trying to solve a case for his brother, and ends up messing with the BIG drug dealers, and finds some clues about his father's murder.
The graphics are out-dated, the characters and the envoirment are blocky, and the city is kind of empty, like if it you were playing in a big holiday, and almost everyone is at home, there aren't many cars on the street, and there aren't many different cars models either.
The sound is good and bad, all the sounds are very well done, the music fits perfectly into the game, when you're excecuting a good combo the game plays some very cool songs that fits the action perfectly and keeps your adrenaline pumping. The voice acting is not so good tough, the actors
seemed to be a little bit unmotivated, sleepy, or something like that.
The gameplay is very good, you can explore the city in Grand Theft Auto style, but it's not nearly as good as in GTA, the city is very empty (except for a few pick ups, and 2 minigames), and the cars aren't so great to drive.
But now here's where the game shines, the gunplay! There's a pretty good number of different guns, handguns, shotguns, rifles, grenades, and etc. But you must be thinking "I can use these guns in a lot of action games" yeah, you're right, but Ramiro can use super-cool looking moves with the guns.
Ramiro can use a good number of moves in slow motion, that really helps you a lot when fighting dozens of bad guys. You can even chain a few moves, like jumping to the side to dodge a bullet and hit a couple of guys in the head, or throw a grenade and shoot it in the air. There's also the
"Loco Moves" where Ramiro performs some cool, powerful and funny moves that can really save your butt. And there's also a rewind system, that makes you be able to go back in time a few seconds to avoid a mistake.
There are also some side missions but they are there just for fun, the story missions are the real meat of this game, sometimes you need to do one or two side missions in order to unlock a story one but they're mostly fun.
Overall Total Overdose is a "play for fun" kind of game, it has it's ups and downs, but it's a good game after all. If you're looking for a fun action game, without puzzles, and tons of things to discover and unlock, buy Total Overdose. If this problems were solved in a future Total Overdose 2
GTA is probably in danger...
