This user's review of RotF on PS3.
The gameplay and controls are not that difficult to adjust to, like having the aim and shoot buttons as L2 and R2 respectively, and some of the character control button combos that youll need to get used to, if you want to perform them during gameplay, like while in vehicle mode you can hold down a button then release the R2 and youll perform an advanced jump etc. Each robot has their own weapons and special abilities, like with ironhide I thought his guns were very powerful, and ratchet has a healing ability.
The graphics are I guess ok and reasonable, Ill put it this way, I dont think youll be grinding your teeth over how bad the character models look and move, its the environments which I think could have been made a bit better, but Im ok with it.
There were only a couple of minor issues which I thought took away from the idea of having control of a transformer. While you are driving or flying, if you bump into any sort of road block or building you sort of just bounce off them, and I wished the environments were a lot more destructable and chaotic, because lets face, youre in a war zone with other robots. And I wished there were more levels where you fight with more characters from your faction, instead of mainly being a one man army style game. But its still fun.
And with the melee combat, I wished it was more like that scene from the first movie where Optimus is fighting Bonecrusher on the freeway, just the intensity and brutalness of metal smashing metal would add a nice sense to the combat system.
I had a chance to check out the multiplayer, though at this point in time there didnt seem to be alot of people playing online, and the games i played were a bit short, mainly because there were only 4 people in the game, hopefully there will be heaps more soon. The game modes are your general free-for-alls, team death match, capture the flags etc. I do like the fact that this has multiplayer, otherwise I wouldnt think it could hold its own with just the campaign. It was fun to drive or fly around hunting the others down then transforming and having a shoot out. And having aerial and land transformers in the one map makes it a bit more interesting and fun.
So thats my first review, some might agree some wont, but its just how this game appealed to me and I like it, also Im a massive gamer so I have a fair bit of experince with gaming, I cringe at the thought of the amount of money Ive spent on games over the years.
Cheers.
