It truly escapes me how this game got so popular. Super annoying gameplay coupled with boringness does not a good game create. In transport tycoon you are the boss of a transport company. You start with $100,000 and no vehicles at all, you build the company slowly from the ground up. Unfortunately this original idea is ruined by some amazingly obvious and easily fixable faults. Graphics are fine for 1995. The game is viewed from an isometric view. Terrain looks fine and vehicles are detailed and animate smoothly. But there are no funny details like Simcity and you never see any people. Sound is bad there are only a few repetitive jazz themed midis. FX are far between with a few quiet motor sounds and sounds for vehicles breaking down. There are other effects like train whistles but really they are all nondescript. The game itself is very dry with no humor. You start with nothing and start laying your own roads, here the first fault rears its ugly head, to build roads both ways you have to click an icon to change which way the road is facing. This boils down to a stack of clicking and gets boring quickly. The other massive game ruining fault is the fact that you can only build roads and train tracks on flat land if its sloped left or right you can’t build. This is totally unrealistic and the worst thing is that unlike Simcity it doesn’t just fix it as you lay the road you have to fix each square manually. Just try to build a road from one town to another. Chances are you’ll have to fix about 9 squares along the way. The tools to fix the squares are just raise and lower land and the view makes it easy to keep raising and lowering the wrong tiles, very frustrating. Why wasn’t a leveling terrain tool included? Why doesn’t it just fix it by itself. It’s a joke and could have been easily fixed. Making railways is a nightmare with the terrain problems, as well as having to use separate tiles to make corners, you’ll waste loads of money trying to make it connect and failing. Seriously this will be enough to annoy you into a towering rage that can only be sated by killing as many people as possible with the CD and then getting a frontal lobotomy Not that its even interesting to start with. There is too much watching and waiting and its subject matter is just very boring, you just build stuff and watch vehicles go back and forth. It takes forever to finish a game and theres no reason why you’d want to. TT also supports 2-player online play that is just a joke. Never will you see a more boring and tame online game. All up this game is a waste of time with annoying, boring gameplay. Don’t be fooled by the apparent idiots getting paid to hype this game. It sucks. Fin
