Honestly, for all the complicated stuff there is to do, the game is pretty shallow after a few hours.
1) Build some buildings that gather resources.
2) Build houses.
3) Build stuff that people ask for.
4) Profit.
Now there are certain things such as the avatar and the whole US vs. USSR factor, but that aspect of the game is a little bit overplayed. Unless you are truly retarded, one is going to like you more than the other and you'll be able to ally yourself with whichever one likes you more. There is also the small task of just setting salaries based on job or education level. Big deal, its a slider and it is certainly not necessary to strike any amazing balance to do well in the game.
In addition to all of these tasks you are given, you are forced to listen to the same repetitive Latino radio guy make the same complaints about the shacks every damn time. Okay, I just started playing and the map starts with shacks, why do I get -20 rep from the Communist faction and why do I keep hearing the same radio commentator comment about the filthy shacks? If you haven't played the game, you probably would not understand.
When the radio announcer is not saying something that is funny the first time but repeated five or six times throughout one playthrough, this music just keeps looping. It's the same four or five songs for hours. I couldn't take it honestly, and the music makes me want to quit the game.
There are some good aspects though. The ability to decide whether you are communistic or capitalist based on salaries is interesting, but somewhat flawed due to the game not understanding my intentions. In addition, I find that the random situations that pop up every once in a while about someone wanting me to fund an expedition of the island, etc. is always nice to see.
In conclusion, I regret buying the game. I tried the demo and it seemed really cool. They also make the gamer get the feeling that the game is really deep by allowing all of these extra options. In reality the options are fluff. Just added on for the sake of, well, nothing.
