I wanted a GTA-like game...well...here it is ^^' But don't expect much...

User Rating: 6.5 | True Crime: New York City GC
True Crime: New York City is an Mission-based open-ended game. The story is clumsy, the controls are strange, and the game, overall, is considerably buggy. Since there's no GTA for the Gamecube, I gave this game a chance, even though I read many awkward reviews, with grades between 4.6 and 7.8 (I mean magazine and sites reviews, not users reviews). I indeed apreciated the experience, most of all the freedon of doing whatever I want in the city....But the missions are VERY repetitive. You'll find many bugs across the city...like you getting stuck in the gound, the game simply freezing, the scenario moving out of it's place...and a bunch of others. The graphics are unipressive...the slowdown is frequent, I mean ALL THE TIME in the city, specially when you're driving...while at the missions, it rarely occurs. The missions, as I said before, are repetitive, I mean, they're all pretty much the same. Kill the bad guys, find the guy you need to interogate, interogate him, get to the exit. Finishing the story takes like 6 or 7 hours. This game is easy to be beaten...just aim and shoot. The bosses are all very easy too. The problem at the missions is that if you die, you go back to the begining, and that's very boring. One thing in this game that can't be complained is the sound. Great music (Punk rock, Metal, Hip Hop and some other styles). I gave it an 8 cause the voice acting is poor, and the sound effects are...not that good. The games fisics are totally out of order...the cars seems like they're levitating, and the car crashes are nothing close to reality. And for some reason, if you go with you motorcycle to the sidewalk, you'll go 2 meters up, just as if there was some kind of ramp. Well, if you really need a GTA-like game for the Gamecube...this game is the closest to it I know. But DON'T expect much from it...as I did. If those bugs didn't exist, and the missions were a but less repetitive, this game would be a nice rival to the GTA series. It's a shame it has so many problems...Overall, this game feels unfinished, certainly so that it could be released during the holiday season. As I said before, I recommend it to anyone who wants a GTA-like game for the Gamecube, but be aware that it's nothing wonderful.
