Could have been great, but game bugs are everywhere
User Rating: 5.5 | True Crime: New York City PS2
This is the second game in the True Crime Series. This usually means that the second game is actually better than the first game. That is not the case here. There are game bugs everywhere. For example, on many occasions I would chase a bad guy, and the the bad guy would start walking through walls, buildings, or just plain old walk on air. Another time, I tried to take the bad guy down without lethal force, but my character for some reason could not touch the bad guy who I had to shoot to finish the particular scenario. Sometimes things go flash in the distant background for a second. Lots and lots of bugs happen a lot. Having said that, I found the game kind of fun to play at times, although nothing groundbreaking. GTA series has done everything better. Once I played the main missions, I really had no desire to go back to shop for songs, cars, etc. The game does not have much replayability except trying to get the alternative ending (there are two different ending depending whether you are good or bad). Driving through Manhattan, I found a lot of street to look alike (with the exception of the tourist attractions), I never really learned my way through the city, because a lot of the street just looked the same. I am sure that this was a different experience with the people familiar with the layout of New York. San Andreas made it better as it was based on a fake city, because that allowed them to have more variety to the landscape. I liked the arrest aspect of the game which made it interesting. I also got into the game enough to want to see it through. If they worked on the bugs a little more, this could have been great. Otherwise, probably I would recommend it as a rental.
