User Rating: 7.3 | True Crime: Streets of LA XBOX
True Crime: Streets of LA had the opportunity to be a really incredible game. But there are some major problems with it that keep it from being everything it could be. The graphics are pretty good, if not great. There are only a handful of cars in the game, but for the most part, you'll want to drive Nick's default car. Most of the others just don't handle well or are incredibly slow. The sound is good, and the voice acting is excellent. However, if you don't care for rap, you'll find the soundtrack annoying. That's the real problem with True Crime, there are a lot of little annoying factors. Perhaps the most frustrating parts of the game are the missions where you have to tail a suspect. You do have a meter to show you how close you are to the car you're following, so you'll find yourself staring incessently at that meter. There are times when the character you're tailing will outright stop for about 30 seconds at a time, or they'll get hung up in traffic and you'll have to crawl along at about 5 MPH. And there are so many of these "tailing" missions in the game you'll soon begin to truly hate them. The one thing the game has going for it is the storyline. It's not a particularly well thought out story, but it DOES contain the basic plot of every tough cop movie ever made. The only thing I didn't understand was where the zombies and the dragon (yes, I said dragon) fit in.
