An average shooter, until you find that levels are easier to pass by just running through them without shooting at all.

User Rating: 3.8 | Turok: Evolution PS2
The Turok series has never failed to please its users, but with the third installment, it's easy to be tricked into buying it based on pure hype. At first I was very eager to dive into this new, hip FPS, just to see what kind of twists it had to offer. It seems this franchise has frozen in time with this update's overall stale feel. Levels can get be down right hard at times, though the touchy sniper aiming doesn't help matters at all. The graphics don't look too shabby, but the lacks of animations just are blown away by Unreal Tournament's newly acquired rag doll engine. The level design in Turok Evolution feels very plain compared to past games, exploration has been replaced with linear paths that either direct you to a dead end, or exactly where you're supposed to go. Not too mention the Taradactal flying levels that will make you scratch your head saying, “What does this have to do with Turok?". The real trouble in Turok Evolution's design, is that it's ten times easier just to run straight through levels, not letting loose a single bullet, than it'll ever be to try to take on the enemies. This brought the game to a screeching halt for me, as I beat a level I had been stuck on for 2 hours, in just one try. I immediately shut the game off in discussed, never to have played it again. Obviously Game Spot had never discovered this, considering the score they gave it.

If you were looking forward to this game, your hopes will be shot down after discovering that this game hasn't taken the franchise anywhere, and has actually brought it back in most cases.
