1st Impressions: Odd setting and the ability to kill almost anything make Turok: Evolution a solid pick up

User Rating: 8.4 | Turok: Evolution XBOX
My Tales from the Bargin Bin continue... Turok: Evolution was $4.99 at my local EB Games, so I figured I really couldn't loose at that price. I was right. Turok: Evolution is an anjoyable FPS with a unique, but odd setting and lots of things to kill and destruction to be made.

Gameplay: Turok is unique because it takes place in a pre-historic era, where dinosours roam free and try to eat you for no apparent reason. You, a indian-man, must journey past those dinos, killer monkeys and crocs to survive, and find the key to the next stage. The actual gameplay is quite fun. You can kill dinos with your trusty ax, or with a bow, or with a pistol... wait... why do the cavemen have pistols? Who cares. Anywho, you can kill your enemies, you can kill animals walking around for no reason like the deer and the "harmless" monkeys and you can chop or shoot down trees and kill things with the falling trees. Timber!!!! It also features an offline multiplayer mode for up to 4 players, which I haven't tried yet.

Graphics: Not great. The graphics of Turok look really dated, so that does subtract a bit from the experience, but not much because the gameplay is so fun.

Sound: The sound effects of Turok: Evolution sound good, making the dated graphics passable. When a tree falls down, you hear it creak. When you walk through a bush, you hear the leaves shake. The sound is pretty good.

Value: Well, it's worth the $4.99 I payed and more. I'd even pay $10 or even $20 to get this game because it's so unique and you can kill the trees and the animals (I bet the tree-huggers and P.E.T.A. people love Turok).

Final Thoughts: This is a worthwhile pick-up because it's unique and fun to play. I can't wait to see what BV Games (i.e. Disney) does with the next-gen version of this violent, dinosour hunting game.
