Best Car Combat game to date

User Rating: 8.6 | Twisted Metal: Black PS2
Its amazing after all these years, there has yet to be a car combat game able to match TMB's intense, and indeed quality gameplay. Starting off in the game your are able to play as a handful of characters. Each one has its unique attributes, and specials, to suit your in-game style preference. There are two single player modes to TMB. There is a story mode, where you will play in several rounds of competition, facing bosses, unlocking videos and/or other characters. Then there is a freestyle mode, where you basically can just play a single round, or a round of elemination. The game also has a mutliplayer feature, where you can face up againts a buddy, or play through story mode working as a team (however you cannot unlock anything this way).

As far as gameplay goes - in my opinion it is unmatched by an car combat game to date. Smooth, easy to get into controls, smart, fair enemy AI, and of course, well-thought-of lvl design, are just a few of the things that make this game a masterpiece. You might also notice that you can interact with just about everything in your inviroment, which is a big plus.

Even though this game was made almost 7 years ago, graphically, TMB has very decent graphics. The game has nice particle effects, and texture, both in the levels, and on the cars.

The game has a very dark story to it. As your complete the game with the characters, you will unlock bits of their story, here and there. Personally, i think darkness of TMB is a good thing. It adds a totally new level to the game through its disturbing, gritty story.

Overall, TMB is the finest car combat game i have ever played, and is without doubt the best in the series.
