It's not the sequel that fans of the 2nd one were hoping (in fact, it's a step backward) but it's still a fun game.
But don't worry fans, Twisted Metal 3 is not the worst of the series, Twisted Metal: Small Brawl takes that award.
The graphics of the 3rd are definitely an improvement, they are not as blocky as those of the second one which is good. The music is good, though not as memorable as the music of the 2nd one, because there's not a lot of original music in the game, most of it is just instrumental versions of Rob Zombie or White Zombie songs. The controls are still really good, the big complain that people had with thew game were the endings, the characters and the level designs.
Now, i agree that the levels aren't very inspired, they are fun, but some of them are extremely weird settings, like the Hangar and The North Pole. The levels are small, which is a step backwards from the big levels of TM2 and the first one.
The big complaint that i have is the characters, they are just RI-DI-CU-LOUS. i mean, with the exception of Auger and Primeval (Unplayable Character but the car was Badass) the new characters are just....goofballs. In Twisted Metal 2 you had an incredible array of dark characters like Twister, Shadow, Axel, Mr.Slamm and in TM3, say hello to Flower Power, Club Kid and Firestarter (The only one who had potential).
The Endings are also a total joke, they last 30 seconds and are just laughable, they have NOTHING to do with the dark endings that the 2nd one had.
Overall, Twisted Metal 3 definitely feels like a step backward in the franchise but it is still a fun game to play so, if you come across it in a used game store for 5 or 10 $, try it you won't be disappointed.
