Very difficult gameplay

User Rating: 4 | Ueki no Housoku: Taosu ze Robert Juudan!! PS2

Based on the popular anime - The law of Ueki, this game is a 3D in/out of the screen side scrolling fighting game, similar to the super smash series. However, the game itself although looks good, it plays rather poorly. Enemy fighters often have overpowered skills, which can be spammed whilst in story mode - the main character called Kosuke, attacks are rather pitiful, many abilities can be levelled up by winning fights but lose any and you'll end up and the previous checkpoint and have to fight through several battles, quite often largely drawn out affairs.

Several boss battles, the fighters have such overly unfair abilities it makes for a very frustration experience. A good example of frustrating gameplay is enemies with tornado special attacks, which can be spammed rapidly and keep the player juggled in the air, whilst dealing damage at the same time - you can somewhat block attacks, but the key is to jump into or out of the areas in a similar fashion to the King of Fighter series, however some bosses have abilities which can even attack from these angles so even that sometimes, is not enough.

Overall, a disappointing Bandai Namco anime-tie in game.
