SpiderMan could have been an extremely fun game, if it weren't so repetitive...
Story
If you read the first Spider-Man comic books, way back when, then you have the story of the game already, as it follows the beginnings of Spider-Man.
On a field-trip, you are bitten by a spider, and start feeling different. You soon find that you are more athletic.
You want to continue your dead father's experiments in a hopeful cure for cancer, of course, something goes completely wrong, and your child-hood friend, Eddie, becomes Venom.
Gameplay
The gameplay is simple, and all too simple in combat.
You sling webs on buildings, you web zip for extra speed, climb surfaces, punch, kick, and get your webs around enemies.
Swinging from building to building is quite fun, and easy to get a hang of, but it will get tedious after a while.
The combat can be considered...lame. Three things you can do to your enemies, punch, kick, and sling webs at them. That sums up the violence. The fights are against bosses, gangsters, robbers, and robots.
There are races in the game. Either against another random Marvel character, or against the clock. The checkpoints are shown as a red orb in Spider-Man's view.
You will soon notice, that this game has a lot of freeroaming. You will be going around New York aimlessly, waiting for another mission. This gets frustrating, if you're trying to beat it in quite a fast time.
This game does have replay value, but its not very interesting. You can go back to the city, after you've beaten the game, to find comic book covers, concept art, and more. It's not worth it to find all of these, really.
Sound
Sometimes while playing you will have a long moment of no music. Then all of a sudden, maybe fifteen minutes after you start playing, you will hear this looping music that CAN get on your nerves.
The voice-overs aren't that great either. You will constantly hear Spider-man trying to make you laugh. But it shouldn't with his cheesy jokes.
Overall, Spider-Man is great for a 3-day rental, but only the biggest fans of Spider-Man should purchase it. This game is very repetitive, and will leave you wanting more...or out.
