Disappointing: More Like an Interactive Movie than a Video Game
User Rating: 6 | Uncharted 2: Among Thieves PS3
I was quite content playing the latest investment in a video game which was KILLZONE II. And the only reason I was playing KILLZONE II was because of a recent reveiw that I watched on this website. As it turned out I was pleasantly surprised by that game and because of that I ventured further into the review section of Gamespot.com. One of the games that they touted as being a real gem was UNCHARTED II and so I ran over to Blockbuster and rented it. Today is Sunday and yesterday I made the decision to spend the day playing this game that garnered a 9.5 plus "Game of the Year" accolades. Well, here it is 8:30PM Sunday night and I'm about six or seven hours into this game and I have to say that I have no idea what these guys were talking about. During the first hour of play and after the fifteen to twenty minute 'movie' that laid out the plot and subplots I was already very disappointed in the lack of....anything. I decided at that point that this game was a loser. I mean it seemed like every five to eight minutes of gameplay that the game stopped to inject a video clip to further the story along. Even though the option is available to skip the movie I felt that if I did that I might miss whatever it was that made it so great...a 9.5. Yeah a 9.5! What the heck?? Not even one of the great FPS of the past two or three years CALL OF DUTY got that rating. In fact there are hardly, if any, games that I can come up with off the top of my head that rated that high but I can tell you this, after I finish with this review I'm darn well going to check. I really want to know what games they consider to be in the same rating catagory as this game. It's slow, boring and has minimal interaction available. Perhaps I'm being unfair as I have yet to finish the campaign mode and I'm hoping that there is going to be at some point an explosive change that suddenly makes it all wothwhile but so far I don't see that happening. Now in all fairness the review mentioned that this game has an awesome multiplayer and cooperative mode that really rounds out this game. If that's the case and after playing through all of this game and it's different modes I decide that I've been unfairly harsh well then I'll be the first to step up and recant this review and will take the time to explain why. However after six to eight hours of solid gameplay so far I'm just not feeling it. In my book this was definitely a waste of nine bucks and I'm really glad that I didn't buy into what the reveiwer had to say to the tune of fifty buck. Ok, enough of that, I'm off to continue watching this movie that is mistakenly considered a game.
