Almost perfect!

User Rating: 9 | Uncharted: Drake's Fortune PS3
What I enjoyed most about Uncharted was that Naughty Dog really tried to perfect the "interactive movie". They come close. Compared to Metal Gear Solid 4, the cut scenes do not drag on for a long period of time. The story progresses well and the voice acting is spot on. Slick writing is also in the mix to really bring out the character personalities.

Visually the game is superb all the way around. Some might complain that the game doesn't run in 1080i/p but realistically it doesn't matter. The game looks so good in 720p that it is hard to really care. The most impressive aspect is clearly the lighting and the water. Easily the best rendered water that I have ever seen.

Audio is also spot on. The voice acting is professionally delivered all the way around. My entire play through I never had any crackling issues or drowned out effects. I don't have surround sound but I do know that this would definitely be a game that should be played on the best system available.

With help of great writing the story stays interesting and has the right amount of twists and turns. I never really noticed any painful cliches that tend to stain many games. I was reminded of "Indiana Jones meets National Treasure" as I played through. A combination of fantasy and history.

Gamespot is correct that the difficulty (even on easy!) causes some imbalances. I felt that this detracted from the experience because the action sequences would get derailed from "trial and error" methods of game play. This was particularly true during the ending sequence. I realize it is a game, but if a developer ever wants to make a game feel like an interactive movie perfectly, they will need to figure out how to balance the game play so that action sequences can be playable while not annoyingly difficult.

This complaint is minor and is the only reason why the game does not deserve a perfect score. Any PS3 owner needs to pick this up, especially since it retails new for only $29.99 now.
