Very fun, compelling story.. made me completely ready to play part II. This is a very fulfilling game.
Uncharted takes two genres - third person shooter, and platforming - and blends them together in a very elegant way, making it a wonderful action adventure game. It opens with a tutorial gun fight.... in which I quickly learned that guns weren't my only option (great melee system). 20 minutes later, I'm exploring lush, beautiful jungles and leaping across dangerous gaps in terrain. With the occasional cinematic moment to mix things up. All of this mixed with great story telling makes Uncharted the best of its kind -action adventure.
Since I'm basically reviewing 2 games.. lets start with the shooting side of things. First off, the cover system works great and very fluid. I don't feeling like taking cover is a chore. Jumping in and out of cover is very user friendly. Using guns is just as easy. Aim and shoot... very simple.. but not boring simple. The only beef I have with the combat is the use of grenades. It doesn't feel like it fits with the rest of the combat... which is quick and precise... with grenades.. I have to slow down a lot and carefully aim them.. where as in others games they flow much better.
On to platforming... incredible.. and that pretty much sums it up. Except for the occasionally obvious path to take... most of the platforming paths are seamlessly integrated into the scenery. You have to play the game to see for yourself.
If you own a PS3.. grab this game.. preferably BEFORE you get Uncharted 2. Which apparently is nothing but major improvement to an already amazing game.
