Incredible story, fun gameplay mechanics, and plenty of replay value make Uncharted one of the best PS3 games available!

User Rating: 9 | Uncharted: Drake's Fortune PS3
Uncharted: Drake's fortune came out almost 2 years ago, in November. I bought this, in November. Why I am reviewing it now, I have no idea, maybe because I still play it after all this time.
Let me start by saying Uncharted looks beautiful. The leafy green environments to the well animated characters and enemies. The water acts to the environment in a believable manner and looks incredibly realistic and the lush forests are second to none. The visuals are somewhat dated but they still look better than 90% of games that are available now. Its no Killzone or Crysis but its still pretty dang amazing!
The story is also really interesting throughout. In Uncharted you play as Nathan Drake who is believed to be a descendent of Sir Francis Drake (remember that guy you learned about in 4th grade social studies?). He apparently faked his death and went after El dorado, an Incan treasure. Nate finds his burial site with nothing in it but an old book which would lead to the treasure and the story goes from there. The story, surprisingly, has a lot to it. The characters are well developed and have their own persona. The actual story unfolds with a fair share of plot twist (although the big one in the end isn't exactly my favorite) and well written dialogue. The plot is great, and the believeable characters add a lot of depth.
Uncharted doesn't do anything new to gaming but everything it does do is nearly flawless and overall fun. The controls work really well for the game and give you many options during combat. You could run up to someone and beat the crap out of them or stay back and pick off your enemies one at a time. Since the melee and gunplay work so well together you constantly use both, which is no small feat looking at it from a developers standpoint. The cover system is executed flawlessly as well. Simply pressing circle lets you roll/slide/stick to the nearest wall. This work nicely with a few exceptions of accidentally attaching to the wrong object. The game also lets you fire blindly, fire while hanging, and preform stealth takedowns which eliminates the "why can't my character do this! I could do that in real life!"
There are also many platforming segments which require you to use your knowledge of the environment to advance. Many of the segments have you repeatedly pressing X to jump and require almost no skill but are fun none the less. Puzzles also make an appearance but are underwhelming and always have a hit you over the head answer. Thinking back one of the only major problems with Uncharted is the lack of thinking required in the puzzles and even puzzles all together. The big twist near the end which seems to come out of no where but is hinted at throughout the game, is also not exactly stellar.
I have beaten this game about 15 times and it is still loads of fun. I got my platinum twice and beat the hardest difficulty 5 times. Even my brother who isn't much of a gamer beat the 10-12 hour story enjoying every second of it. If you own a PS3 you need to own this game. It truly is one of the best I have ever played!
