When I first saw some of the gameplay footage, I thought that this would be a must-play game for all Vita owners. Unfortunately, if you're a fan of the Uncharted series, this one is going to have you feeling a bit frustrated. Familiar fans of the series know that Naughty Dog has top notch production values and are quite skilled at writing a story to go along with its polished gameplay. In the beginning, it's forgivable that they conveniently places treasures and various obstacles in your way to give you an in-game tutorial on all the new touch features. But after two hours into the game, you're still finding yourself spending more time wiping clean the treasures you find, piecing together puzzles of maps, or repeating segments of the game that require you to use the Vita's gyro-sensors to balance Drake as he traverses over a log.
I really wanted to enjoy this game because I know firsthand how great the other Uncharted games were. The immersion of the story and tight gameplay always left you feeling satisfied. Unfortunately, I found myself focused more on doing these menial tasks instead of enjoying the story and gameplay. Not to mention, it seemed like most of the treasure that you find are turquoise gems that hold little value other than unlocking cards.
So if you're looking for a solid, well done action/adventure for the Vita, this one isn't too bad as long as you don't mind going through scores of overused touchscreen segments in the game that pull away from what really matters.
