Why spend money on a real deck of Uno, when you can get this?
Now, 35 years later, the game arrives to the Xbox 360 as an Xbox Live Arcade game.
The game is rather simple, and is really easy to get into. It requires no knowledge about the game whatsoever, before you throw yourself into it. Everyone (Over 7 years of age) would be able to understand the rules of the game, and play it.
The gameplay is.. Well, like Uno. You need to get rid of your cards before anyone else. You can't just put every card you have on your hand into play. For instance, if the card in the pile is a Red #3, or any coloured #3. If you choose to play a Blue #3, then the pile will change to the new colour; Blue.
There are two different cards you can play without having to worry about colour or number.
First one is the Wild Draw. The Wild Draw changes the colour of the pile into whatever colour the person playing the card would want.
The other one is Wild Draw Four. It's similar to the Wild Draw, but when used it also forces the next player in line to pick up four cards, unless he challenges the person who used the Wild Draw Four.
He might suspect the person using the Wild Draw Four to have another card he could use. If he is right, that player must pick up 6 cards, if not, then he must do it himself.
There are three other cards that are different to the cards with numbers. These are:
The Draw Two; Forces the next player must draw two cards and lose their turn.
The Skip card; Forces the next player to skip their turn.
And the Reverse card; The order of play is reversed from clockwise to counterclockwise, or from counterclockwise to clockwise.
The graphics are just fine, and cards looks very nice. The animation when picking up a card, or throwing one into the pile works smoothly and looks good, especially when a player picks up multiple cards. (Due to Wild Draw Four, or a Draw Two.
The graphics isn't really revolutionary, but who would expect a game of Uno to be so?
Sound on the other hand is great. It sounds nice when a card is picked up, or put into play. The music on the other hand may get a bit irritating in the long run, but it's fun and cheerish music. At least, it mostly gets me in a good mood, if not listened to for too long.
The multiplayer is what gives this game a great replay value.
Online is much more fun, and challenging, mostly, then the singleplayer option. If you play this game online with a friend or two, then that will surely help as well. I've laughed a lot when playing with friends online in this.
Sooner when the Xbox Cam is being released, it will be useable in this game.
The game lacks an offline multiplayer mode though, but that would seem impossible to create.
If you'd want to play against someone offline, and someone who's right next to you, then you'd have to buy a real deck.
There are almost no excuses for not buying this game. If you're looking for a new Arcade game to entertain you, then this should be considered, even if you own a deck of Uno.
I hope you enjoyed the review, and that it was somewhat useful to you in any way. I'd love some feedback on this, as it is my first review of a game, and I'd like to know what to change when writing my new review. (Feedback as a private message would do fine, or any other way.)
Thank you.
