Being a fan of the original Unreal Tournament and UT 2K4, I thought I would like the xbox version. But really it's just a stripped down version of the other unreal and unreal tournament games.

The one difference in this game are melee weapons but I never really got into those. I always end up mostly shooting than slashing. There are a few situations where I will whip it out the melee weapon but for the most part, I stick with the guns.

Which by the way feel stripped down in selection. You can only carry 2 global weapons and then your character's melee weapon and pistols. Most of the pistols feels the same, some are different (such as the robot's pistols) but you'll have to be playing the game for some time to put them in any good use. There's 8 gun selections in total. Not that bad, but not great. The rocket launcher and grenade launcher seem stripped down. The weapons that still seemed nicely intact were the shock rifle and the sniper rifle.

One thing that I liked is the difference between the characters. Each one has their own abilities, there not all just the same for each one. You need to unlock characters which can be a bit annoying, since this is a multiplayer based game but most characters can only be unlocked through singleplayer.

There bots and their pretty descent. Which is good if you can't play online or don't have any friends over. Playing with others is better but the bots will keep you busy.

The real thing I didn't like about the game though, are the maps. They just seem limited some how and although there are a lot of good maps, there's also a lot of not so great maps. The modes are pretty much (team) deathmatch and capture the flag. I personally like more team based games, so I generally just play capture the flag. The number of players that are normally are on each map are also not that great. Normally its 4-8 players, which then makes it a deathmatch based game. But for some reason it doesn't feel right on the xbox, I dont know why. Maybe I just like the gameplay better on the PC.

It tries to get you to play in third person but I found first-person way better. Maybe it's just because I've been playing first-person shooters for some time. I've enjoyed other shooters on the xbox (Farcry, Halo, WWII shooters) but for some reason, I just couldn't get into this one. It just...seems too plain. Too old fashioned. I think I rather play the original Unreal Tournament.
