User Rating: 9 | Unreal Championship (Xbox World Collection) XBOX
The Unreal series is viewed by many PC gamers as one of the best Multi-player FPS games on the PC and now the Xbox gets a piece of the action. Unreal Championship was a game that I thought at the time was going to be another cheap average game, but I was soooo wrong indeed. I inserted the game into my Xbox and there was a short movie before the game starts, which I thought was enjoyable to watch. Then the game loaded up quite quickly. The game began and from that moment I just totally fell in love with it. Unreal Championship's graphicial detail is very well detailed, in fact near photorealistic they were smooth and very well presented to the human eye. I walked closed to a walk in this game and I noticed that the detail didn't detarioate by getting blured or blocky. Movement is very easy to master. The controls are well laid out and if problems of remembering which move to make occur, then the player can adjust the controls to their own personal setting, via the menu options which is just a button to access. The feel of the game is deepened when the Dual shock is on because when my character took some punnishment the pad vibrates to indicate the damage being done. SFX and background music is Unreal Championship's forte because it is very atmospheric and addictive at the same time. It had a gunho feel to the game, which made me want to kill and kill more enemies. If at any time the music became annoying, which it isn't I could adjust the volume of the music and the volume of the game's SFX. It eventually give me a slight headache that I just had to turn down the volume, fortunately I could do this! The SFX are very realistic and at one point they became so real that I thought that I really was walking down a corridor with a weapon in my hand. The Chaingun is the prove in the pudding because it is both powerful, loud, and fast. An insane amount of ammo is needed for the full benifits of this weapon but trust me you will run out of ammo very quickly, but it is well worth the show. Some weapons have got two modes of firing. Unreal Championship offers gameplay to die for because there are a huge choice of characters and different types of races, each having different strengths and weaknesses to choose from, as well as the arenas which are HUGE but there are some small ones for a one on one battle. I could also enter a single player game by choosing my disired character. Once I chose my character, I could then name him or her. Then I would choose six characters to become my team . Once that was done all that remains is to name the team and then it is time to enter the tournamenent and fight my way against the CPU. Setting up a single player mode is simple just work your way through the screens. Then the fun begins because the Single player game will have you on your toes in trying to complete the levels to unlock new parts of the game. Each time you complete a level a new game mode or level is unlocked. Sadly, saving the game during a deathmatch is non exisistent, so it would mean having to complete a level for your progress to be saved I found this a little frustrating as I was dying and not progressing through the tournament. The death match modes provide non stop enterainment. There are six game modes to choose from. I could set the length of the match and I found that I could have up to 60 minutes and unlimited frags, now can you imagine the amount of blood and guts flying arround the arena? I certainly found out that that's along time of killing. A full 60 minutes and unlimited kills played all way through is enough. It would become quite boring after a long time of play. But boring doesn't even even come into the bill because 2 - 4 players can duke it out on a deathmatch, or 16 players can play against each other but this would mean that it will be costly and there's the hassle of who's going to play against you? Alternatively the game supports Xbox live where you can play with other players online, but this again is both costly and will be alot of trouble to run. The ball is in your on deciding on which is the cheapest to run. To sum up this game is one of those games which could be played again and again and never be fully completed. At the same time it is very addictive and is fantastic valve for money. A must for FPS fans and everyone else alike. A poor man's Unreal Tournament 2003 that is a masterpiece and a Quake 3 killer.
