There have been many other good Unreal games, and this was not one of them.
Anothert problem with this game was the sound. Everything that was spoken in the game seemed hurried, and there were no pauses between any of the sentences. All, in all, this game could have been decent if it was just polished up a bit.
Unreal has usually been known for making really nice looking landscapes. They did do a good job in this game, but where was that great frame rate from Unreal Championship. When some of the monsters were killed, they would fall to the ground in a very awkward and robotronic way. The game also slowed down during busy moments. In the Championship games, the frame rate is amazing, and even when there are 50 people on one screen there is hardly any slow down.
One of the things I did like about this game was the weapons. They had a pretty good range of weapons, and they all had unique features. I especially liked that gun that could fire 6 different kinds of ammo. Other than that, there wasn't much for me to enjoy about this game. Some of the missions were kind of fun, but they got repetitive after a while.
All in all, Unreal 2 the awakening was an ok game, and maybe an 8 year old wouldn't notice the difference in gameplay, but I did. I really wanted a good Unreal game, and I am glad that they made the Liandri Conflict which was a much better game.
