As a hacker, you will have to steal and alter identities, download data and inject virusses into other systems

I was always wondering at what point someone would actually make a game that simulates the player actually sitting in front of a pc screen. Obviously you could not simulate the gamer playing a game, but who about a game about game programming or surfing the internet, or - for the more adventerous - being a hacker, sweet (insert 90ies buzzword here).

Uplink does just that, sporting a slick blue (future future) interface that pretty much resembles menus of common computer game, this is actullay the game interface. As a hacker, you will have to steal and alter identities, download data and inject virusses into other systems.

Like with most games, you can update your in-game persona or whatever represents your "power" as protagonist. In this case, you can update your Hacker rig with various tools and systems to improve your abilities.

Although the graphics are not spectacular, they serve the purpose and sitting feverishly in front of that blue glow, biting your fingernails and hoping you will have enought time (seconds) to fulfil the task can be quite thrilling.

Unfortunately, the game can become quite tedious and repetitive, and some hardcore gamers may crucify me for that suggestion, but the one or other mini-game would not have hurt.

Furthermore, the game is really missing a sandbox mode with randomly generated tasks and events,

Still, if you are into this type of game and genre (hacking), this might appeal to you.
