The MOST Underappreciated PSX Game- UC Is Tha Isht!

User Rating: 10 | Urban Chaos (Ricochet Collection) PS
First and foremost, I wanna thank you for reading this review. You obviously have an interest in this game, and that's smart of you. This is the game, I feel, that put GTA (as we know it) and SR on the map, only you play the otherside: the po po.

I bought Urban Chaos when it first came out, before I became obsessed with the idea of a strong lead black female in a game (and to my knowledge, it's the first game to feature a black chcik in the lead role). You play as rookie cop D'arci Stern, who just joined Union City's police force.

Union City's gang activity has gone up as the Millenium approaches, and the murders and crimes in the streets begin to become more and more bizzare. And, if you run around the streets, you come across a plethora of upgrades for your character (such as strength, refexes, etc) and random missions. And that's one thing I appreciate about this game, the missions range in variations. One will have you simply scaviging for clues, while another might have you scale the city's buildings to talk a jumper off of a roof, to uncovering a corrupt government that is somehow linked to the most viloent gang; the Wildcats.

As for Union City itself, it's pretty expansive. Although it is played by levels, the game itself is kind of open-worldish (especially for the PSX). The city has a lot of randomness throughout, as well as pedestrians you can question, beat up, and arrest and cars you can break into to drive. I was always enamored with how Eidos built it, and spent many an hour just running around appreciating the fact you COULD just run around and cause mayhem of your own.

The graphics on the PSX are a lot more muddier than the PC's, but I prefer the PSX because I can load this badboy up on my PSP. All in all, this game has had it's name tarnished for too long, and when I saw they had Urban Chaos: Riot Control, and it didn't have jack to do with the storyline, I knew this was going to be the only good we were going to get out of Urban Chaos. I wish they would ressurect this and make things right, because I feel this game STILL has sooo much potential, and I feel it exceeded it's potential at the time. The fact that the missions don't overlap or feel like you're doing the same thing over and over is my one complaint for GTA, so why did this get so slandered?

If this review has piqued more of an interest than you already have for this game, I suggest you play ir for yourself. You deserve it, and so does Urban Chaos! It's the isht!
