Urban Reign gets a bad rap. But despite all of the bad things with the game, it can be incredibly fun to play. The fighting engine is genius and very well done. The story, although pointless can get interesting at times, but what matters most to all beatem up games is the fighting, and this game definitely comes through with that. There are various different combos you can pull off, and once you get better at the game, and learn the reversal and dodging systems well the fighting can actually begin to look really cool. The game also sports a robust 100 mission storyline, and with its insane level of difficulty will take you a while to finish.
One of the major dissapointments of Urban Reign is that there is no multiplayer story mode. It makes absolutely no sense for that not to be in this game considering that a great portion of the story mode is completely with a cpu partner by your side that could have easily been a second player. Another big downfall is the incredible difficulty level. I would suggest putting it on easy or maybe even very easy for your first time, because it can get more than frustrating at times.
Nevertheless Urban Reign is a solid attempt at making a good beatem up game. I would never reccomend buying this game, but its definitely worth a rental.
