Utopia for SNES is a strategy game in the same genre of the Sim games, especially Sim City. The major difference is that this game takes place in space. You lead a colony that is establishing itself on a planet that faces the standard challenges you would expect in growing a city. You do all you can to manage the city and keep your city safe from would be miscreants. Gameplay: 7/10 The game is played in scenarios. And in each scenario, there is a different planet of Omicron (there are 10 planets in all). Each planet has distictives to it such as alients and landscape. Where this game suffers in gameplay is that the scenarios don't really end. They kinda just go on forever... or as long as you let it. In that regard it is similar to the Sim games that don't really have a point. Graphics: 8/10 The graphics are great for a game from '93. There is a lot of color and pretty decent detail. Some of the artwork is quirky. But the designers were probably just trying to come up with a creative background for an alien planet. Sound: 6/10 What I look for in SNES games is background music that fits and is not overly annoying. And I also look for appropriate sound effects. This game does fine in these areas. Not all of the music is original stuff, as some are taken from some classical pieces. Reviewer's Tilt: 7/10 This is a pretty decent game for those that like more free flowing city management games. It is not a particularly creative game, nor is it at the level of the Sim games. But if you like this style, this is worth trying.
