Not for Everyone

Let me just put it plain and simple.
IF you love, devour and lust for RPGs, then get this game. IF you don't, there are better ones out to there that we hope will win you over to loving the genre as we do.

First let me tell you the positives. I have to admit, being the level grinding whore that I am, I enjoyed V K because it is that primarily first and foremost; a level grinding machine. In fact, to really have a successful party you will visit the same dungeons over and over leveling up your characters by simply switching classes (jobs) over and over to max out stats.

To explain that, say I level Ash up to a level 5 fighter, then I switch his job to cleric (making him a level 1 all over) and level him up to a 5th level cleric, then switch to a thief and etc to keep raising stats. Yes you retain all your stats as you switch so you go back to level 1, but keep raising vital stats with all available classes to level 5. Then go back to your first choose class for the character and level Ash on up to a level 6 fighter and higher while retaining all those accumulative stat bumps through all the class changes.

Makes for all long fun grind, but for some nice stats and fun play as you start to kick some serious monster behind, as it should be.

Couple of other quick points on the positive:
Some of the monsters I found interesting, either in humorous names and make up (never fought a Flu-Bunny before), or in the company they kept that made fights interesting tactically.
Was neat to be able to set how a character would respond in battle, such as melee, ranged, heal, nuke and etc. And being able to jump from one character to another and manually control him or her was fun and a good game design.

Other than that, that is all I can honestly say good.
Story is not that great, if you notice it at all. The quest system was very bland, and if a food, would taste the same as eating a piece of wet cardboard, covered with a paper thin film of peanut butter spread. I was not impressed.

Some of the battles can be fun, but once you figure out what tactics to use with a set group of monsters you wash and repeat that until it gets very old as monster groups tend to replicate over and over in dungeons.

Sound is functional, but thats it.

Eye candy with me doesn't weigh over story line or game play depth, but this game is definitely lacking eye candy in a noticeable way. For instance, when a spell caster casts a spell, if you don't watch closely your not sure if it landed or not from just trying to notice spell effects eye candy.

As far as the camera goes, I definitely had issues with it. At times it was frustrating to keep track of an enemy I was trying to sneak around. Near walls or when walking under an arch or through a doorway, it was frustrating at times to get the camera to perform as I wanted it to.

However, in spite of all of that, I found the game interesting enough to play at airports, doctor's waiting rooms, during long bathroom visits, or when I couldn't sleep and was too tired to get up and find something else to do.

If your out of RPG playing material and love the genre get it, otherwise move along and save those gaming dollars.
