One of the best games you probably never heard of.
With the recent news that its going to be re-released (on Game Boy I believe) people may not be so eager to buy the original PS version.
Valkyrie Profile features an interesting battle system, one which I haven't seen in any other game. In battle each character is assigned a button on the PS controller (X, O, square and triangle) and by pressing these buttons you would send your characters to attack an enemy. Each character only has so much stamina to attack so once you spend all your stamina, its the enemy's turn. Combos are key in this game, so timing when your characters attacking will help increase damage, at a certain point you will be given the option of doing a special Purifying Attack, which can also be chained with other charaters specials (kind of like in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 if you've played it). The battle system takes some time to get used to, but once you figure it out you'll find yourself making unbelievable combos. The art work in the game is fantastic, lots of handrawn backgrounds. A lot of the enemies have the same look as well, mainly some recolors. The sound is the only thing that I would really give a mark against it, some of the voices are annoying, but that may just be my personal preference. If you can get your hands on this game for anything less than 80 bucks, count yourself lucky and never let it go.
