Decent if played as an arcade

User Rating: 7 | Vanquish PS3
Vanquish is a decent game, no doubt. It is also a very polished game and so far I hadn't been able to find any glitch or problem with the game. But Vanquish has a problem that most shooters has, repetition.
Gameplay: 8/10
The shooting mechanic is like that of Gears of War, but much faster paced. There is a small variety of weapon and they all were satisfying to use. The levels boasted a clean sci fi feel, but most of them were confined to a small area that you have to clear to proceed to the next. The bosses were easy to defeat. The AI is fairly decent. The gliding power where you use to get to places quickly is awesome but as the game moves on it gets quite insignificant. So the whole game is pretty much rinse and repeat.

The story: 5/10

I played this game a while ago and got bored, and I'm not sure I could recall the story right, but it was about Russia launching an attack from space into the US, then you, the player, together with the military, had to fight back. Again, nothing special.

Graphics: 7.5/10

Most of Vanquish takes place in enclosed space, so obviously it would not have any problem with frame rate. However enclosed, the game levels could be quite large and beautiful in a sci fi sense. But in this game, the graphic takes a step behind the quick paced game play.

Overall: 7/10

Vanquish is a neat little shooter that felt more like an arcade game than a console shooter title because of the fast paced action. The game is very short and easy, and while fun, it could get very repetitive later on, but like I said, it is a short game so before you get extremely sick of it, it would be over.
