Fantastic update to the underrated original. New features like the sphere of influence and focus points are good additions. The interface is easier to manage with less pointless message pop-ups. The new map style also really suits the 19th century feel of the game and the soundtrack is great too.

There are a few quirks on the early release with far too many rebellions and a few economy bugs the later on you play. These will undoubtedly be cleared up in future patches but it is frustrating when things are going great but your capitalists keep building useless factories.

Played through once as the papal states to get the feel of it and didn't really take them anywhere. On second play as Hannover I formed Germany and rose from 20th to 3rd. Replay value will be high as there are so many directions to take your country and each country has different challenges and advantages.

Highly addictive and immersing you get great satisfaction from achieving even the smallest strategic objective. The paradox forums are also great for getting tips and talking about different results.

A fantastic game I will be playing for years.
