Coming from someone who owns this very same box, I can safely say I have no regrets in purchase. Plays all the games I need to be played at a constant smooth rate (CS:GO Runs at 300fps on max settings, GTA V runs 60fps on mid range - high settings, WoW plays at 180 fps on max settings, etc). Only problem I have with the machine is that you can't alter it or upgrade it. Also, no CD drive, which can be altered when you purchase it because you're given the offer of purchasing an external CD drive. The added bonus of being able to play on the TV is pretty great, but you'd want a few games that play with a controller. Apart from all of these minor flaws I know the machine will last me a good two years, and for about $1400, I'd say it's worth it! If this is out of your price range how ever, I would NOT recommend the cheaper versions of this machine as they're not going to take you very far, opt out and build your own tower... Or wait a few years before getting a steam machine!

Happy Gaming!~

Can you click in one or both pads? Also, I am wondering what setting Bioshock is running in, and what its frame rate is. If it was max settings 60fps, that'd be awesome. I also want to know, is that upgradable, and how easy is it to upgrade? At 450, that's a good price, but only if it runs games relatively modern well. Oh, and one more thing actually, are there only a certain amount of games that can be played, or can I go on my profile of Steam, and play any game I have?

@NTM23:

I have this with windows 8 rather than steam os, steam os only supports a smaller subset of the games where as on windows it supports your full steam library + origin, uplay etc.

Everything is upgradable except the GPU, an extra 4gb ram for about $20 is a must for the latest games. So far with 8gb ram it runs everything ive thrown at it at a similar level to ps4. Examples battlefront 50fps 900p ultra, gta v ultra 1080p 50-60fps, farcry 4 1080p ultra/high 30fps, advanced warfare 1080p ultra 60fps.

Cost me a little more than a ps4 but its the best gaming purchase iv made in a long time, plays all the latest, huge back catalogue and setting steam big picture replacing windows shell its perfect for me. On the down side it does require some fiddling to setup to get steam to replace windows shell and tweaking for game settings sometimes.

I hope this thing is a huge success. I'm sick of game consoles and this should be a great option for people who aren't very tech savvy and just want something that works out of the box.

The digital button at the end of a trigger press is fantastic, no one has done it since the Gamecube and yet it makes total sense!

Yeah so basically when people complain that the darn thing doesn't run any games, they can update to a Windows version for "free".

what do you mean "nearly identical" I guess i will have to look it up.

But if they both have = hardware, but one runs win 10, and one doesnt. Isnt it a no brainer at the same price?

@gord0nd: I think it's really a matter of controller preference as you can just install the other OS on either system.

@ztype85: And one runs a console OS and the other a PC OS.... and the Steam Machine is slight buffed in power too.
