@Joedgabe well some players might play solely for the PVP, seeing single player as not much other than a way to gear up for it. not too strange IMO if that's what you mean.

Judging by the beta and the interviews it appears it the difficulty has been nerfed. I have mixed feelings about this one, not as excited for it as I was about DKS2.

Great video folks. You guys are getting better and better at the intros and endings. :D

To the point. From what I've read out there on the interwebs the battle mechanincs have been tuned and made the game a bit more challenging, f.e. the targeting system seems to have been dumbed down, you can't rely on auto-aim lock on systems anymore, you're either pointing at the enemy by yourself or you aren't, the timing required for parries have been reduced, enemies are harder to backstab and so forth. Interesting changes that I can't wait to try out.

As for playing alone. I played the first playthrough of both Demon's SOuls and Dark Souls alone, because I wanted to prove I could do it all by myself (didn't summon NPC ghosts either, it was me, myself and I only) . I'll do it again on DSII, and will play with others on the second run (and the following ones too).

The collectors edition is pretty expensive, but pretty neat! I love anything with a statue/figurine--so I preordered it. Just hope the game is a big step above DS, especially with regard to the Mulitplayer.

On a side note: Maxwell annoys the f*** outta me! Nothing sh!ts me more than people who are not funny but have convinced themselves that everyone loves their character. Just go and eat your mum's box and stop making every video with you unbearable!

I completed Demon Souls three times and I loved it. I've played Dark Souls and didn't completed it. I got bored with the level grinding and lack of online players at the time I played it, but it's also a great game. I guess I didn't completed it because of that lack of online players when I was playing it and it is MUCH harder on your own than when you leverage the help of others.

I wish the game remained as unforgiving and hard most of the time, but, personally, would welcome a mechanism by which the game eases it off when you get stuck for too long. For example, it could pop additional AI allies to help you out. So that people who don't rely on any help gets all the credits, there could be additional trophies for those who complete the games with no AI help.

Ultimately, for the hard core gamers, the game would remain absolutely unchanged and tough. For weaklings like me, we could beg for summoning AI help allies at the cost of shame and disgrace (could also be a trophy ;) ).

@AnonymousSquid Solair made most of the bosses pretty chill imo. I don't think any of the bosses are unbeatably hard even for the average gamer if you summon an NPC phantom

@AnonymousSquid maybe leave it as hardcore as usual but also make difficulty level option for players who play games casually or more for the story then challenge

@Zevvion @psycho_fox oh shit really?? i didn't know the player was vulnerable during backstabs now...i guess that makes more sense though. same w/ me, i did a lot of riposte and backstabs w/ crit ring & parry dagger + lightning uchi dual wield build. the katanas were my favorite, but i think i'm gonna go w/ a stronger more lumbering class this time around. the bigger weapons look like a blast to play with, like the zwei's new running uppercut attack. really lookin forward to this game...even thinkin of booting up demon's souls one last time just for the hell of it, i can't seem to find any other games on my ps3 that match the difficulty and sense of victory, although shadow of the colossus HD was bringing back some memories last night..

@slefo29 not really, it's not designed for it and the mechanics punish you for dual wielding.

Sadly I never bought Dark Souls, my friend would bring it over and watch me play it because he never wanted to since he invested 96 hours of grinding prior. I actually had no idea you can summon allies to help you fight, my friend insisted we played offline or 100% as a hallow because he didn't want to us to be invaded (which was silly at our level.) It wasn't until I started watching youtube videos a year later that I learned you can summon allies.

I really didn't get the full experience of Dark Souls, my friend ran though and rang the first two bells and killed Sif and Butterfly without me, he also did some dragon head infinite soul glitch before he came over so by the time I was playing the game we were at Sen Fortress and level 755 with a huge selection of +5 Equipment, it was super cheap but it didn't cheese the game in the way he thought it would, we still had a hard time.

I did play a little of the Undead Parish since he wanted me to remember the controls (we also played Demon Souls.) I am gonna get Dark Souls on PC when I finish my AMD build and do this game differently.

I will not allow this with Dark Souls 2 I know my friend will get it but screw him we are doing it right!

Just wanted to share!

@strahd01 I was that friend you are talking about to someone else. I suggested we to only play hollow but after a while and a coulple of youtube vids we started to play online. Now we have met alot of new people to play with and the community is pretty awesome. Ive even met invaders that just dropped a ton of items for no reason and leave or just joke around and dont even want to fight. We even pvp sometimes or beat the game on ng+. Its brings a whole new dimension to the game and for me its the best game ive played in YEARS.

I think the biggest issue with playing with random players - which Kevin left out is this (and correct me if I am wrong):

When playing Dark Souls, you find yourself summon all sort of players. At early levels, and especially during the very first days of launch, a good number of them will be fresh to the world and levels, and won't know what to expect. Making progress together a REAL adventure.

Unfortunately, as a Souls vet, I can tell you, this is NOT the case more often than not.

Most of the players you will encounter are either:

a) players who already passed this level, and are looking to get souls and humanities, so they put their sign again.

b) new game + players who know the game like the back of their hands.

c) seasoned players who know the game and every inch of it, like the back of their..well... back.

The result is always the same: you get players who know it all, and are impatient - so they charge forward, run and gun if you would, totally "stealing" the exploration and traveling experience from you. Killing monsters easily, even opening passages or triggering hidden treasures to appear without giving you a chance to find out about it.

That sad experience happened to me back in Dark Souls in Undead Parish: I summoned two phantoms to aid me - and all of the sudden I found myself chasing them, trying to keep up. They marched while I still examined items - killing some of the mini-bosses enemies - that appear one time per playthrough - even killing 2 of them without me ever seeing them.

Another big issue is - players that are way beyond your level - the can kill just about anything with one strike, and you are just a camera chasing them.

This - for me at least, is the biggest concern when playing with random players - I wish I could easily tell how new they are, how many times they visit a place and what level are they exactly...

@GunEye I know Dark Souls pretty well and I do put my summon sign up a lot because I like helping other people. People that straight up rush are rare though. Most just walk with you whereever you go. But yeah, they take care of business for you. That's the point of summoning. You're summoning for help. By watching them kill stuff, you learn their strategies and can then proceed to use that yourself.

Also, you're always within 10% of each other's soul level. People one hitting stuff have just done the right amount of upgrading weapons. Or rather, you're lacking upgrades.

@Zevvion @GunEye trust me, I know all of you are saying. But still, the majority of the players I have summoned are like that - rushing ahead, rarely ever stopping.

If they do all the dirty work for me, it takes away from the fun of the game, from the challenge, and simply makes it a "deus-ex-machina" if you know what I mean.

I much prefer playing with characters at my strength and knowledge or below that. It makes for more challenging playthroughs and encounters. My best most memorable adventures in both DSs were with characters at my power, some are poorly equipped and experience. The thrill of winning the bosses and saving each other from traps for the very first time - is priceless.

I personally like to go through signs (if I can), and pick the ones that look the worst or least equipped. preferably weak armors and cheap weapons :). They are a blast to play with. If I see a guy fully armored with a huge hammer and a hat, I rather skip.

@GunEye @kelandris @Elite_Bushido The website has a Steam icon so I am not sure about a physical copy. The PC versions doesn't have a release date yet. If it ends up like Dark Souls did, rest assured modder will step in again and make it the best version just like they did with DS1

@GunEye @Elite_Bushido It has been confirmed. When they announced the platforms they stated they were making a pc version and that it would be tailored for the pc rather than a bad port like last time. They also announced it will be released shortly after the console release here in the past few months.

If they take out the difficulty and therefore the commitment the player had to have with the game, they'll ruin it.

@psycho_fox They don't though. Some critics who've played it extensively explained that it's even harder than Dark Souls actually, it's just more streamlined, which isn't the same as decreasing difficulty.

For instance, backstabs no longer make you immune and doing them makes other active enemies more aggressive. Which is... ****. I completed Dark Souls pretty much on backstabs and ripostes.
