The PS4 looks great but you can tell the advantages the PC has. Especially when the character is in motion. The 60 FPS is much smoother than the 30 FPS. Plus, the enemy and background detail is much better on PC (not to mention 4K capability for monster PC's and the additional graphics mods that users will create shortly after release). I am still not sure which platform I am going with but it is good to know the game will look excellent on PS4 and even better on PC.
There's actually a pretty big difference in person. Higher resolutions, twice the framerate (or more), more solid framerate (PS4 version has framerate drops and frame pacing issues), better anti-aliasing, and whatever cool SweetFX tweaks people come up with. The PC version definitely has some nice advantages.
@kalipekona: I take your point that the PC version will look better but with respect you are paying a lot more for the privilege. A quality graphics card is not cheap plus you have to factor in costs of processor, memory, hard drive, operating system, keyboard/mouse, power supply and case (perhaps even a monitor). A budget that far exceeds the cost of a PS4! Plus with PC gaming these days you always run the risk of 'dodgy' conversions-Arkham Knight anyone?
@mal123456: Except the fact that we are not paying a lot more for the privilege, PC is all about options. A 400$ PC can outperform PS4 and XBOX1 in terms of fps and graphics, similarly a 600$ PC can play modern games on 1080p 60fps at much better graphics compared to the consoles. You really should do some research, 550$-600$ is a sweet spot when building a PC, one gets double frame rates and much better graphics compared to consoles for 50% more price (considering the consoles to be at 350-400$ price range). Additionally we don't pay for playing online.
@guycook: Pc's in the US are evidently a lot cheaper than here in the UK-the average gaming computer costs £500 not dollars! And a good one is over £1000. A PS4 costs less than £300!
Plus I've yet to see a PC play Unchartered, Gran Turismo, Killzone, Bloodbourne, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter and God of War!
Not to mention all the exclusives it gets that it shares with the XB1 or PS4. I mean, in a couple days I'll be playing Quantum Break on my PC. I can't play that on my PS4. And there are lots of games like that. You get so many games on one platform with the PC.
I'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy your PS4. It is pretty dang good for the price you pay for it. I'm just saying, don't close your mind off to PC gaming.
@kalipekona: To be honest I've been a PC gamer since 1993 (and a full gamer since 1977-got my Atari in 1978). Got my first DX in 1994 and first Pentium in 1995-first 3D card in 1997. Been through about 10 machines in that time and although I dabbled with consoles, PC gaming was my forte. (loved Xwing, COD, MOH, adventures, Tomb Raider, Bioshock, Company of Heroes, Command and Conquer etc, etc) Everything changed though when the PS4 and Xbox 1 turned up-I just prefer them now (love my Wii U as well even though I never bought a Wii!). I just saw the PC being dominated by MMo's, Moba's etc. Very few exclusives turn up on PC now with the exception of a few strategy titles. And when a big name port came along there was always a chance of a Unity or Arkham Knight screw up!
But hey the main thing is we love gaming on any platform! Must admit I have my XBox 1 version of Quantum Break on pre-order but am really looking forward to Unchartered 4 the most!
As I'll go for the PS4 version, I couldn't care less. I bet From Soft will do the same they did with DS II: launch a regular version for the current gen, then maybe an updated and definitive one for the next gen. But I do hope the ultimate DS III version comes up this gen next year tops!
Wow the anti-aliasing on the PC has some major problems. Once again the PS4 hugely outperforms the PC. Sad that PC gamers can't appreciate a true gaming experience and the better graphics.
what is the point of these comparison anyway?, they always look so similar to the pc version. i tell you what kind of games you can compare it with consols, a game that made only for pc that only nvidia quadro 12 GB can handel it,, and then make a consol version and compare it. it would looks like Wii's version
Most games don't look that similar between the console and PC versions. From Software just doesn't put much effort into enhancing their PC versions like many developers do.
Low quality videos on the internet can be misleading. If you see videos comparing last gen games to their "remastered" versions on current consoles there doesn't usually seem to be much difference either. But when you play them in person the difference is appreciable and significant.
In any case, if you think there isn't much difference between console and PC then you probably haven't actually spent any time playing on a decent gaming PC. Moreover, if there isn't a significant difference between PC and consoles then the difference between PS4 and XB1 must not exist at all. Yet, we see console fanboys arguing about this constantly, as if it were the most important thing in the world.
It seems console fans (mostly Sony fans) want to have it both ways. They want to pretend simultaneously that the PC isn't much better than the PS4, but somehow the PS4 is way better than the XB1. It's pure absurdity.
In reality, the performance gulf between the platforms is more like this: PC>>>PS4>XB1
at this comparison they look the same, but PC can be played on DSI to increase antialiasing and higher framerates. for those who really want some improvements.
I paid attention to aliasing and it's very well under control for the whole video on both platforms. PC is only so slightly better that I would call it a draw. What could have made a big difference is to set the PC in 4K.
The graphics look so bland, are the developers losing interest in the souls series? Dark souls 1 had like moss and overgrowth on everything this looks so empty and flat
@dannydouble: There had to be a way to get the console versions to run at 60 so they decided graphics had to suffer in order to do it. Just looks like they forgot to put the decent graphics back in for the PC version though.
@dannydouble: From Soft needs to give DS series a fitting closure. From all the DS III footage I've been watching, the game is a great entry, but it's clearly running out of ideas. The boss' battles are visually stunning this time but it's like they have fewer attack patterns than ever. The last boss battle was a proper farewell though.
@dannydouble: Yeah... too much sequels, same of the same gameplay become old... glad this on is the last, and from sofwaere will move on new direction... Look how bloodborne has beter evioriment! just needed more weapons and variations...
I hope you can force AA through driver settings that looks pathetic. Have they even heard of Anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering in Japan. It looks as blurry as all hell.
@dannydouble: I think you need to educate yourself on the more advanced AA around today. You may be thinking of what it used to be like in the early days.
@ILSATS: If they are going to bother with a PC port there should at least be a standard though. This looks worse than Dark souls 2. Surely this is not max settings on PC. Where is the AA?
This does not look worse than Dark Souls 2. Methinks you forget how DS2 actually looks. This looks very comparable to Bloodborne, and while that was not the best looking game around it still created some nice atmospheric locations.
@kalipekona: Well it looks worse than some of Dark Souls 2, that game looks awesome in 4k DSR. i guess the problem is when they show you rubbish graphics at 1080p only though. As for Bloodborne , Design wise it is good , graphics wise it is terrible.
@deviltaz35: DERPPP! Of course watching a compresssed 1080p online video on Gamespot's video player is going to look different than running the game in person in 4k on a 4k screen.
@bongsyas_23: Isn't the general idea to get people excited for the game though. Why would they show it looking this utterly shit? i saw it being played elsewhere and it looked alot better than what they are showing here.
It was cool watching 60fps comparison videos in a player that is limited to 30FPS. That will give the console peasants some happy and relieved feels that "omfg my version looks like the PC one!" when, in actuality, no it does not.
Watch proper 60 fps comparison videos on youtube guys, these are well produced, but handled on a busted ghetto player.
What's ironic is they have a decent HD production livestream. What are you guys doing gamespot?
It's sad that GameSpot has to create click bait articles like this. Anyone that has a decent PC they use to play games on with a decent graphics card and display is not going to even bother with 1080p and certainly not 30fps.
But I guess it makes the ps4 folk out there feel good.
@brgsteven: Yep it sure proves one thing. If you port a PS4 game onto the PC it looks the same apart from framerate . Wow that must be some sort of revelation in the world of gaming. Now can the real Dark Souls 3 please stand up? Please take this Direct X 9 quality game and shove it up ya kyber pass and give us something decent for 2016.
Looks like Durante may have to step up once again to save this mediocre game on PC. I guess injecting smaa will make it look better if you can use reshade.
