I dont care that its exclusive I am just happy I am going to be playing it next week. I do own an xbox one. I dont currently own a PS4 and dont plan on buying 1 anytime soon. I dont know if it will hurt sales in the long run. We wont know until the end of 2016 if sales are below expectations whatever they may be.

I've never been a fan of MS and exclusivity, but only because I think MS should be extending it to PC. They're not like Sony. I might never own another Xbox, but I will always be using MS in one way or another because I'm a PC gamer.

It's a bit different now, but for too long there were no racing games on PC, but MS had Forza for Xbox. I lost respect for them awhile back. I guess now they're finally starting to recognize this, but they really need to be looking at Xbox+PC versus Sony and/or Nintendo.

I like The Lobby - I like the gamespot crew and their banter - but too much of this show's time focuses on stuff that has already been detailed in other reviews/articles/videos on the site. Also because of the three topic structure you can tell even before hitting the Play button whether it's going to be worth taking the time to watch.

Couldn't we mix it up a bit lads? A bit of chat about topics not already dissected elsewhere on gamespot?

Just a suggestion ... I'll probably still watch now and again regardless of whether anyone hears this.

@sm_mayo: "detailed in other reviews/articles/videos on the site". The point of this show is to discuss those topics. This isn't a news show. It's a hangout where they discuss popular topics. That's why only certain game reviews are explained. Only the popular ones. People always wanted to hear more opinions on certain topics and that's basically what this show is.

If there's a big enough topic that hasn't already been discussed somewhere else, it will be brought up. This has happened multiple times before, but it's pretty rare, because the show airs on Tuesday. The show is more about what's happening at GS, and less about gaming news in general. Most people aren't satisfied with one person's opinion.

I still need to find a racing game that can compete with Sector 3 Studios' "Raceroom Racing Experience" (look it up on Steam) - it's the successor to Race 07/Toca3 ... and I cannot look at other games anymore. Forza, N4S, even pCars or iRacing ... nope.

Also, everytime I see a 'racing line' something inside me dies. And no cockpit view ... my eyes seek the exit.

...and yes, BE EXCELLENT TO EACH OTHER! Words to live by, Bill & Ted...

I loved the rebooted Tomb Raider and wanted to play this at release so much that I bought an Xbox this summer (I bought a PS4 at launch). So I guess it sold Microsoft at least one Xbox One lol.

Exclusivity is nothing new in video games, it's been going on since the industry started. Xbox got 1 year timed rights to tomb raider, people hate. Sony then does something similar and no one cares, saying stuff like "well xbox started it". People are acting like microsoft invented the concept of exclusives and timed rights when they didn't. If you use the they started it attitude, you can find similar dealings going back a lot farther then this across the board of every company that has ever made a home console. People are going to be what could hurt tomb raider, now i'm not saying that this current deal is good or bad, it's business and it will happen again. I'm not saying to not care but eventually all that hate is going to do is make you bitter, and not like video games. If i cared about every gaming business deal that prevented me from playing certain games (new ip's or sequels) I would have stopped playing years ago. My rant is over, these are also just opinions, I could be wrong

@silentrambo: The problem here is you are taking select opinions from both sides and presenting them as if they are the general consensus on both sides. That just isn't the case. Many people also think that ANY of the big 3 effectively paying money to third party developers to keep their game off rival consoles for whatever amount of time is complete and utter BS... I thought this when Microsoft announced exclusivity for Tomb Raider and I thought the same when Sony announced exclusivity for Street Fighter V. Your comment does not speak for everyone, even if many of the people who do have that opinion tend to be extremely vocal about it

@I-am-Error: At the end of my lack of of coffee rant, I said that is was my opinion, I never claimed to speak for anyone other than myself. The sum of it is I am just plain tired of people complaining about tomb raider's timed exclusivity, if only because the underlying issue is older than this particular situation. If in my rant I offended you it was/is not my intent, and I apologize. I would just like to see a video or article about tomb raider that doesn't once talk about it's timed exclusiveness, and just focus on gameplay.

@silentrambo: no offence taken my friend and I certainly didn't mean any either :-) Perhaps my comment was a little unfair, every time this issue comes up (which is a LOT) somebody always chimes in with 'oh, so nobody complains when Sony does it but EVERYONE goes nuts when Microsoft does it!!!'... I realise that this isn't what you are doing with your comment!

@jtthegame316: Absolutely. If Tomb Raider is "hurt" by a timed exclusivity deal then Bloodborn was devastated by not coming out on Xbox. I think its also very telling that they decided make some crack about the Xbox version of NFS not performing flawlessly. First off I doubt that even happened and second who gives a shit. As far as video games go all Gamespot cares about is: Resolution, FPS, then game-play and story last.

It was interesting hearing the discussion about Rise of the Tomb Raider and exclusivity deal for XB1 for a year. But, I will wait until it comes out on PC or PS4 in 2016. Just because Microsoft came up with the extra cash to make this game - it still shows a big middle finger to all PC and PS4 owners.

Some have compared exclusivity like Bloodborne for PS4 not available to XB1, but you may as well ask why Halo 5 is not released on PS4. Tomb Raider has been a multi platform franchise for most of its 20 year existence. Microsoft are excluding millions of PS4 and PC owners from playing this game on release. Its a nasty vindictive deal with Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics and shows plainly that Microsoft do not give a damn about the broader gaming community.

I have all the Tomb Raider games and the most recent have all been purchased for the XBox 360. I will not get an Xbox 1 just for this title. Not too long ago, Microsoft tried to prevent us playing used games on the XB1 and had to back down to an angry gaming community. That is one reason I bought a PS4. Microsoft really have some devious, little twats in the XBox management and are trying to screw gamers with shady, unethical deals like one year timed exclusives. Either make a game exclusive or make it available for everyone.

@7tizz: You need to get your facts straight. The original Tomb Raider was not kept off competing consoles like the Sega Saturn for two years. A simple google search would have told you that, so where you got your misinformation is beyond me.

@7tizz: Wow you really don't take the time to read or look around do you. Tomb Raider 1 was released on the Saturn in 1996, same year as the PC and PSX version. You posted wiki info from Tomb Raider 2 when your above post mentioned the first one being exclusive to the PlayStation 1 console for 2 years.

You are backpedaling because you were dead wrong about the original being exclusive to a platform for 2 years. Anyone can challenge your gaming knowledge if they want since you don't take the time to verify how accurate you are. Just checking https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomb_Raider_%281996_video_game%29 will give you the full release date list of each version of Tomb Raider 1. And hey would you look at that, the Saturn version is the first one on the list, 1996 after all.

Oh and referring to me as "kid," really clever. I've been playing games for 25 years so I'm anything but a kid, but nice try though.

@7tizz: This was your above comment:

"Tomb Raider was not always multiplat. Sony bought exclusivity on the first one for 2 years - keeping it off Nintendo and Sega consoles. And Angel of Darkness never even saw another console port."

You said "first" Tomb Raider not part 2 (or a "second" Tomb Raider). Don't try to backpedal now. You were wrong, just admit it. There is no shame in admitting when you are wrong about something, but there sure as hell is in trying to act like you were right when you were clearly wrong.

@7tizz: Sorry, but it is different. First of all Sony was wrong to buy exclusivity for Tomb Raider which was first a PC game.

second of all that is VERY different from rebooting the series and then releasing the first game for everyone to play, and then turning around and holding back the direct sequel from 3/4 of gamers.

that is a VERY anti-gamer move. it's not "just business" at all. It was a bitter, spiteful move.

and Sony responded with SF5 and stealing Call of Duty exclusivity from Microsoft.

I don't like that SF5 has been taken away from gamers, but Microsoft hit first, Sony had to respond in kind. and they did. SF5 is collateral damage.

Tomb Raider was out of spite, and a direct blow at gaming in general in a negative way. Nobody forced them, or did anything ti inspire that.

other than making a much better console and having much better sales. the answer to that isn't to give the finger to the people who chose not to buy their console.

wrong move

@7tizz: you point out in your response EXACTLY why what Microsoft did is worse and different and not just the status quo.

you see, I don't own a Microsoft console, i've never played Halo. It's a microsoft exclusive since the get go. So I can't get mad.

If you want to play God of War, Uncharted, The Last of Us, or any other of the game of the year winning franchise exclusives on Sony, they have ALWAYS been on Playstation only.

but I played Tomb Raider on PS3 AND the definitive edition on my PS4.

but i can't play the sequel now? that's not direct and blatant?

Yes, exclusives are part of the business. and I accept that. That's why i've never played Knights of the Old republic (the only game i truly feel i missed out on), and had to wait years to play Mass Effect.

but taking a multiplat, and warping the direct sequel of a story driven game into a timed exclusive just to spite gamers for not buying their console is just the wrong move. and they should (and have been) suffering the consequences for their actions in the sales arena.

and Crystal Dynamics should and hopefully will as well. as should anyone with such anti-gamer policies and practices. They have no place in the industry

@7tizz: yes, because it doesn't matter that a game developer and console maker made a very intentional and malicious move towards the gaming community at large.

just accept it and move on, because it doesn't matter how gaming companies treat gamers. We are basically their slaves right? we have no right to be upset or want to be treated fairly by them.

that's just off the walls thinking. I guess that explains why your avatar is what it is, don't really care about gaming in general. Just about what big brother tells you to care about.

sad, just sad.

@7tizz: Sony isn't my big brother. Sega is my favorite game developer/console maker. and i have every gaming console as well.

just not the one that spews anti-gaming policies.

because as a gamer, I don't support those companies that try to force me to do things I shouldn't be forced to do.

@7tizz: True, but my dream scenario. which isn't' possible, and I know that. Is for Microsoft to spin off the gaming console (which is going to happen, but it'll probably just merge with windows and PCs and be a subscription based gaming service instead of a home console thing), and sell the rights and everything else to Sega (whom they have a working relationship with since the original Dreamcast ran on Windows software).

Sega discontinues the microsoft console, and released the Dreamcast 2.

in which i would be first in line day one yelling "Shut up and take my money"!

ahhh.....dreams.

@7tizz: I don't know about that. a North American presence in gaming has done just as much harm as it has good.

Sure it revolutionized online multiplayer, but Sony wasn't that far off from doing that on it's own before Microsoft came into the picture. who is to say it wouldn't have happened regardless? But let's say that it didn't. Would developers spending more time and resources on single player experiences instead of shoehorning multiplayer into every game really be a bad thing?

no 10 year olds screaming obscenities in your ear talking about fornicating with your mother. Or maybe focusing on co-operative campaigns to story driven games as opposed to tacked on multiplayer?

and North American influence introduced the paid for DLC model. did that make gaming better? I don't think so, i think it has been a really bad thing personally. Before North American influence we could just unlock those types of things just by playing the game without unlocking the wallet.

Sure there are good things with North American influence, but there are a lot of bad that came with it too. i'm not saying North American influence is bad, but maybe Microsoft shouldn't be the one carrying the baton

and I say that being a pretty blatant Microsoft fanboy for everything outside of gaming.

for the record......

@7tizz: I love Microsoft, obviously i'm a windows user, I have a windows tablet, i'm going to get a surface 4 or a surface book (not sure which one yet).

I'll tout windows always.

but in gaming, I don't believe they belong. But to be honest, I have never felt like they belonged. I felt it was a money grab to start and they never really cared about gaming or gamers at all.

and all these years later, after paid for DLC, how multiplayer has come along, coupled with the original plans for the next gen console, and the Tomb Raider fiasco, they have more or less proven that line of thinking to be true.

I just wish they would focus on what they do well. they have lost hundreds of millions of dollars on the console thing.

and gaming in general is no better than it would have been now if microsoft never came into the industry. and truth be told, you could make an argument that it would be even better now.

a world without "season passes".........you have to admit, that would be better.

@7tizz: In gaming, yes. In console gaming, no.

both are very very different animals. PCs are not consoles, and consoles are not PCs.

Gaming in general, absolutely. So i should amend what i said, I don't believe they belong in console gaming. because they have done arguably more harm than good.

In the console game, Sony goes all the way back to just after the SNES (i.e. the nintendo playstation concept), as to where Microsoft came in a lot later with the Dreamcast's OS. (which is one of the reasons i love Dreamcast for the record)

What is up with people complaining about killing in games. Games would be boring without action! That's why there is always shooting or fighting. Quit your whining you pansies.

Difference between what Sony did with Streetfighter and Bloodborne and the TR deal. Is that Sony has it as a full console exclusive. i wouldn't have been angry if MS just made it completely exclusive. Instead of paying to keep it off another platform for a year. That pisses me off and I have both consoles.

@wkadalie: that really makes no sense. It would oiss me off if they made it an exclusive. Knowing I'll never be able to play street fighter (EVER) is worse. At least other people who don't have an Xbox can still play tomb raider eventually.

Damn, the Tomb Raider footage sure looked good. It actually looks like it's 60fps. Even though I heard it is 30fps. This is the smoothest 30fps i've ever seen. WTF is going on here? Why does it look so good?
