Sorry Gamespot, but this is the dumbest list I have ever seen. I don't even want to hear an excuse, an apology, or justification, nothing. This is just awful.

You have Far Cry 5 scored 9 out of 10, for Superb mind you, and you have it in last place on the list. What!? Far Cry 5 was actually one of my favorite Far Cry games. One of the reasons I bought it was because of your glowing review. It is one of the few Far Cry games that you gave a 9. And yet you have other Far Cry games that you gave 7s and 6s above it. This is pathetic. How can you expect us to believe your credibility with something like this?

I know it is just a games list. And everyone is entitled to their opinions. But have a little consistency. Have a little integrity. Maybe a little faith in your own review scores. Or call it what it is and say it is this one certain person's, or author's/reviewer's list, and not Gamespot's as a whole.

This is pathetic. I just can't stand it. This list has no bearing on which Far Cry games belong where on a top 10 list. Even though you did get Far Cry 3 right at 1. But Far Cry 5 with it's 9, by your own review, belongs much higher. Definitely higher than the Far Cry games that were reviewed with a 8, 7, or even 6. Disgusting.

Good list. I know this only evaluated the single player campaigns but FC3's co-op was also a blast to play.

My only real difference is FC2. Didn't do much for me. Found it kind of tedious and video was correct that villain just wasn't very charismatic, so you never felt very invested.

Honestly, I was probably one the only people that was disappointed with Far Cry 3. Why? Because of the marketing.

FC3 was literally, word for word marketed as “Skyrim with guns”. This was before people were super jaded with developers. This was before people were calling BS on game marketing, so I took it at face value. I went into far Cry 3 expecting an ELDER SCROLLS GAME but in a modern setting with guns. Obviously, it was absolutely nothing like Skyrim.

A fixed character, no choosing dialogue, the exploration of the island was nothing like exploring Skyrim. They’re just 2 completely different games, the only thing they shared in common was they were open World. That really bummed me out and turned me off from the series as a whole. I literally never played another Far Cry game after that.

Like I know I should not have expected it to be like “Skyrim with guns” but I mean, why shouldn’t I have? For anyone who was too young at the time, or just wasn’t paying attention, that was like ALL the marketing was about, was that it was like “Skyrim with guns”. It wasn’t just some off hand remark, it was the MAJOR force of marketing. They were really leaning into Skyrim, and it’s just weird and it rubbed me the wrong way after I played it because of how little they had in common.

@godofheck42:This is even dumber than the actual list. I have played almost all the Far Cry games, and never did I hear anything that Far Cry 3 was Skyrim with Guns. Sure it was open world. But everybody knew what Far Cry was. It wasn't the first one in the series. Everybody knew it was going to be Far Cry 2 on some tropical islands with some changes to the formula. Skyrim with guns? Never once did I hear this. Everyone knew what kind of game Far Cry was. And Far Cry 3 was fantastic.

Having just played Far Cry 1 again, I can't take anyone seriously who'd even put it in their top 5. It's a classic game, but to play it today, it's hot garbage. I wouldn't even put Far Cry 2 on the list since it's still riddled with game breaking bugs, it's respawn system makes just going from place to place an absolute chore, and the malaria thing just has no place or purpose in the game other than being annoying busy work. They're both terrible games by any modern standard. Games like 3,4,5, New Dawn and Primal might be repetitive and I have no interest in playing the reskin rehash known as 6, but they're miles better than the original games. Also, the definition of insanity is not doing the same thing over and expecting a result. That's bumper sticker pretend philosophy for idiots and the uneducated.

@jeremyalexander: The phrasing you're looking for there is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result****

"not doing the same thing over and expecting a result" Lmao, sounds like most peoples approach to the sciences.

@jeremyalexander: yea but dude.. back in 2008, Far Cry 2 was way ahead of its time. At the time it felt more like a simulator. I’m not gonna be replaying it any time soon but it’s definitely a game that deserves respect.

Far Cry 5 is hands down my favorite. It had so much to do and made me care for each one of my NPC companions. In the same vein, New Dawn was a compelling sequel chock full of familiar elements and faces from 5. Made me feel "at home" so to speak.

Far Cry 2 is my second favorite because it says "**** your feelings" the whole way through.

Far Cry 3 is undoubtedly the cornerstone of the franchise. When it released it was 100% GOTY material and imo has the best story of the series that really put you in Brody's shoes as things went from bad to worse to even worse, to I am the embodiment of death.

Far Cry Instincts Predator for XB360 was a blast. It was a linear-open area format like the Original and Crysis, and Ubisoft's debut at the helm. I replayed it six times. What a blast.

The OG Far Cry... I never beat it, kept getting a critical error when the volcano base starts blowing up. Even in potato mode. But it was fun. The level with the creatures escaping the paddocks was hectic in a way only HALO's flood made me feel.

Primal and 4 just failed to hook me. I just felt meh every time I tried to get into them.

Never played Blood Dragon, I got a chuckle from the trailer but I dont think I'd like it.

OG far cry was the best (OG not that crap with powers). Gameplay wise at least. It was HARD AS NAILS, didnt had quicksave. The monsters kept you on the edge of your chair, and the gunplay was amazing. Even the human enemies didnt disapoint, and had pretty great AI.

@jsprunk: Can't tell if this is a joke or not since it's just the games in descending chronological order

First game was strange and I appreciate that. Even so though, an FPS with powers? Both The Darkness and Bioshock were miles better and they were linear.

With Far Cry 2, things went serious. The fire physics were extraordinary.

The Devs got lazy with the fire physics in it’s sequels though. Far Cry 3 let go of the complex fire physics in favour of something more simple. However, it must be said that Far Cry 3 was the game Far Cry 2 always wanted to be in a lot of ways.

4 was a very straightforward sequel which offered nothing new and something must have happened half way through the development of Far Cry: Primal for the way it ended up being, which was pretty bare-bones.

I played FC5 for a few hours and it was buggy as hell. Some of the save posts didn’t even work. I heard the post-apocalyptic sequel was better though.

FC6 sees much of the same. Maybe less buggy. But why can’t these smuggling and faction conflict storylines take place on Mars or something? Mix it up a bit. They’re just copy and paste now.

@vaativids: I don't remember having powers in the original Far Cry. But it has been ages.

@mogan: My mistake. I thought it was. I realise now that there was one before, with Instinct being the franchise’s first sequel.

@vaativids: Yeah, I think Instinct was where Ubisoft took over development from Crytech, and Crytech went on to make Crysis (they've got a real thing for 'Cry', I guess), which was also Far Cry with super powers.

@mogan: Yeah, I remember Crysis was a big PC title back when PC were still about a generation ahead of consoles and back then it looked breathtaking. I was excited for Crysis 2 but expected more fluidity from it. Movement felt very heavy. Didn’t play the third.
