Farewell Danny O'Dwyer - The Lobby

Oh, come o-o-on... Danny is good as a podcast moderator, he's easy to listen to. But his "documentaries" are absolutely horrendous - enormous amount of factual errors among many other faults in all of them.

And he left GameSpot to do just that - "documentaries". Shame.

Goodbye to Giant Bomb's foreign correspondent.

A sad day indeed, you will be missed Mr. O'Dwyer. The point had the best editorial pieces I've seen about video games. Thank you for all your hard work and best wishes for the rest of your career.

I'm generally a lurker myself, so I don't usually comment, but Danny it was a joy watching your videos. All the content and topics you addressed on Gamespot were amazing as well as the best gaming journalism I've ever had the pleasure to view! I have been meaning to say this to you for more than a year, and ... Well usually, I'm watching something on a lunch break and figure I should just get back to work, so I don't engage the comments. But now, the chance to make a comment has a clear countdown timer on it, so here goes.

Your encumbrance video where you drink the fifth so that you can move on... that was hilarious. The only thing I had to add was that you should have also found a clip of something - Resident Evil style- that would not fit in the pack. And then taking out a gun, fired two shots at a tree, so as to make room for the new clip in your pack.

So many times, I have opened the inventory in various games, and then just drank something so that I could carry the new stuff, of dubious value, because I did not want to leave it on the ground. Resident Evil 4 was the most recent example of also popping a few rounds into the wall just to pick up another box of ammo. (That damn suitcase puzzle!)

Anyway, I loved that video and the oblique way you poked fun at various inventory strategies. Video games don't usually get the higher minded intellectual treatment, but you have done a wonderful job of being smart and funny, often hitting the high road and the low road in the same segment. I have really enjoyed watching your work.

Heard you were leaving so I had to log in after so many year just so I could leave a comment. I remember when you started your own gaming site and then when you started working at Gamespot UK and how excited you were. Even though I haven't logged on in years your vidoes kept making me come back... be it as a lurker.

Well, it's been a slow death, but I can finally say Gamespot is officially dead to me.

With Danny gone, there leaves the only thing that kept me slightly attached to this website despite the IGN-fication proccess of the past few years.

So long, I'll stick to RockPaperShotgun from now on.

I've been here from back when EFMS was called Bluffer's Guide and I just had to login and say it's sad to see you go, Danny. It was so refreshing to see someone who looked for the same things in games as I did... That sense of wonder and nostalgia and so much more. You made me realize that its ok for games to be such a big part of your life. Hope to hear more of your Irish accent, man

Been one hell of a run. The site's changed a lot over the last 12+ years that I've been a daily lurker on here. I'm no journalist, but like you I've been a long-time member of GameSpot, I turn 30 this year (9/17/86), and I've been known to cry super hard when saying "goodbye". You will be missed and will certainly go down as one of the all-time greats of GameSpot.

Danny if you're reading this, I have to say it's so weird to talk about people like you I've never met but feel like I know so much. And I'm not even the kind of idiot he'd be best friends with the stars of his favourite show... But you're not an actor playing a fictional role, you're Danny O'Dwyer. For years you've never shied away from expressing your opinions (regardless of popularity) about games, the industry or even the people buying them and leaving mean comments on the internet.

I've always been of the opinion that the best way for consumers to evaluate reviews is to find the reviewer you agree with the most. Whether it was games or just the industry in general, I've pretty much always found our opinions we aligned.

You're witty remarks will be sorely missed.

When game developers/publishers put games in to the hands of so called game journalist, game critics, gamesite review comments and opinions is just personal opinion, and gamers want to be told if they are going to like a game, then that is where really good developers with really good ideas go to die. I would love there to be a sequel to The Order 1886 and Remember me, I really loved playing, but the way that the games were excepted I don't think a sequel is going to happen. Ready at Dawn and Dontnod Entertainment studios are very talented group of people. I have never agreed with Gamespot staff on anything, Danny and other Gamespot staff have pissed me off, so I am not sorry to see Danny go.

Danny, your content was usually the sole reason for why I would come to Gamespot - maybe that's in poor taste for me to say as I'm logged in to Gamespot haha but whatever, you did a fantastic job. Hoping I can see more content similar to "The Next Big Game," and "The Point" in the future!

Will be sorely missed. For me gamespot was at its best when Danny was still in the uk, him and Johnny Chiodini always made the best content. Shows like random encounter and feedbackula had me in stitches. Anyway, good luck in your future endeavours Danny.
