Giving Fallout 76 Another Shot

Fallout 76 had a rocky launch, but with the Wastelanders update, you might be tempted to give it another shot. Here's what Jake Dekker has to say after spending 30 hours with the new update.

The long-awaited Wastelanders update comes with a number of changes, improvements, and new content. With that, you might be asking yourself: Should I give Fallout 76 another shot? GameSpot’s video producer, Jake Dekker, has spent 30 hours exploring Appalachia to help you answer that very question.

In this video, Jake goes over all the big changes introduced in Fallout 76’s Wastelanders update, including the new dialogue mechanics, the faction system, and the story. Although Fallout 76 suffers from many of the same issues it did at launch, Wastelanders seems to be a step in the right direction.

Fallout 76 Wastelanders is available now for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Stay tuned to GameSpot for Alessandro Barbosa’s full review of Wastelanders.

I like Fallout 76 as a single-player game. Despite the bugs, server stability has improved dramatically since launch and the game has a fantastic map that's a joy to explore. Once you get past level 50 or so, enemies aren't so deadly and combat is fun. The quests and NPC interactions of Wastelanders are a good addition, too. Yes, the game is missing some key features like text chat, a looking-for-group tool and a global trading post. Yes, Bethesda broke its promise of cosmetics-only microtransactions. Yes, Bethesda said unlimited stash space would bog down performance and then gave unlimited junk space to Fallout 1st subscribers. Yes, Bethesda asked the community for ideas to improve the game and then ignored 99% of the good ideas. But yes, Fallout 76 is a good game.

Extra shot given. Fallout 76 still sucks.

Fallout 5 and TES VI are also confirmed to be online only with microtransactions. Say hello to the new GTA 5 Online franchises folks.

@jsprunk: Where was it confirmed that F5 and TES VI are online only? I find nothing online that confirms this.

Could you supply a link?

EDIT: There is absolutely nothing anywhere that backs up your claim. AKA making shit up.

Wastelanders was a nice addition. With that said, this game is a money sink to get you to the atomic shop. You cannot have any of the build abilities you hadin FO4 without spending copious amounts of money, it's impossible to find plans, AND to boot the inventory system is baked with strategic limitations to get you to subscribe to Fallout 1st for $12.99 a month to have your "Unlimited" storage bin. Oh, and, instead of just giving folks who had to go through this mess of a game with the option of hosting their own private server, they put that in the cloud and force you to subscribe to it. 1st of it's kind. Oh I am sure the value here is screaming at everyone from the Bethesda marketing roof tops. Get your act together before TES 6 / Starfield Launch Bethesda, because you have unfortunately become, and continue to be, the laughing stock of the customer base you claim oh so much to care about.

Clean your house up.

No Man’s Sky. That game deserved another shot. They are an indie crew that had big dreams that just got in way over their head when the initial launch rolled around. Somewhat understandable. They recovered quite nicely because they cared and took the time.

But THIS game? No. Second chances are for people who show sincerity and care. Bethesda has been the absolute worst by showing they just want your money with little to no effort in return. It wasn’t a “rocky launch.” They outright screwed people for over a year with game breaking bugs, insane transactions on a micro and macro level, and by withholding even basic content for an “expansion.”And now said expansion rolls around and suddenly they should get a second chance? No. This behavior needs to stop. Do not encourage it.

@rawkstar007: 100%. NMS is probably one of the greatest turnarounds in gaming history. If it was clear that the 1.0 release was "early access" I still think it would be regarded as one of the best sci-fi games of the generation instead of a pariah.

This game... no. We gave Bethesda a lot of chances to right the Fallout ship and they seem content with making stupid decisions and burying a great IP.

Looking forward to the next single player Fallout. Eldar Scrolls 6 shall be good, if they don't include multiplayer :)
